Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Ambulatory Care Nurse (FGP), Manhattan - Essex Crossing. In this role, the successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and management for a designated shift for a patient care unit (or clinical service in operative and ambulatory settings), consistent with the philosophy and goals of the institution, nursing department, unit, or program. The candidate will assist the nurse manager to develop and sustain an environment of excellence in patient/family service, growth and development of staff, and to apply evidence‑based practice to improve patient care. Supports clinical rotations of students as part of partnerships for school affiliations. Evaluates the performance, and assesses practice, of designated personnel in a fair and transparent manner. Serves as a role model and resource for staff. Develops and manages employees through promotion of professional growth, mentoring, appreciative coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline, as appropriate, aligned with a caring, fair, professional work environment. Monitors staff attendance. Ensures appropriate staffing and skill mix to optimize patient outcomes and safety while promoting fiscal responsibility. Coordinates care delivery and assignment of staff based upon identified patient care needs and clinical competency for optimal unit operation and patient outcomes. Assists in scheduling, payroll, and integration of services across the care continuum. Provides direct patient care as needed to support the clinical operations of the unit. Provides leadership support to other units in the service. Holds self and others accountable for the delivery of exemplary care in a cost‑efficient manner. Assists with maintaining accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards, and policies at the organizational, local, state, and federal level. Communicates with clarity and integrity to build trust with all stakeholders. Communicates significant patient care issues, family concerns, safety, risk management concerns, and critical events to leadership on duty, seeks consultation and assistance when indicated, and reports to the Nurse Manager or Director in a timely manner. Communicates regularly with the Nurse Manager about patient safety, clinical practice, staff performance, and participates in implementation of unit initiatives. Participates in the drafting of nursing and organizational policy, engaging front‑line staff, incorporating shared governance principles. Supports data collection in collaboration with the nurse manager and interprofessional team. Analyzes and utilizes data to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics to achieve excellence in patient and nursing outcomes. Assists leadership team in maintaining licenses, certifications, mandated learnings, and content for unit staff. Fosters high reliability concepts within the unit/organizational structure. Fosters a culture of inquiry, innovation, and transformation with a focus on the future. Participates in and fosters staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence‑based practice efforts. Leads and supports development of new insights into complex situations, innovative designs, and programs/processes. Exercises independent judgment in the course of duties: discipline of employees including suspension and discharge, evaluation of staff, approval of time‑off requests, assigning work to staff, and decision making regarding hiring staff. Minimum Qualifications Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. Two years of experience. Clinical certification in the patient population served or nurse‑leader certification. Ability to apply the nursing process toward specific outcomes in an organized fashion to address patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators. Evidence of excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, and leadership skills. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association. Physical stamina, manual dexterity, and visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities, including handling and moving reasonably heavy weight. Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License (NYS), Basic Life Support Cert. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in nursing or health‑related area. Two or more years of clinical practice in the care of the patient population served.
