The Pacific Grove Police Department is a service-oriented agency that provides full-service policing, 24/7, to the community of 15,522 residents. The agency's authorized strength is 23 sworn officers; and supporting the Department are 11 professional staff members. In order to be considered, PELLTB T-scores must be 50 or higher, and WSTB scores of 384 or higher.Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: This is a non-sworn, training level classification in the Police Department. Incumbents will attend a basic police academy for training and California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). During the training, incumbents do not have police powers and are subject to the rules and regulations of the City of Pacific Grove Police Department and the academy attended. Trainees may be assigned non-safety duties in the Police Department such as assisting in Records; crime prevention; collecting information and data; transporting people and materials, etc. Promotion to a sworn Police Officer position is contingent upon successful completion of the basic academy and the final review of the Police Chief. Upon promotion to Police Officer, incumbents will begin a new one-year probationary period.Education, Training and Experience:Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.Must be a citizen of the United States at the time of appointment.Must possess a valid California Driver's License at the time of appointment.Must be possess a High School diploma, a G.E.D. certificate, and/or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited school, college, or university.Must be fingerprinted through local, state, and national systems for the disclosure of criminal records.Must be of good moral character as determined by a thorough backgrounds investigation, including a polygraph examination.Must be found free of any physical, emotional, or mental conditions that might adversely affect the exercise of peace officer powers.Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.Must provide proof POST Entry-level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) Written Exam and the Physical Agility WSTB Exams were successfully passed.Skill in:Understanding, interpreting, and applying State and local laws and regulations, department policies and procedures, and other technical literature pertaining to law enforcement;Reacting quickly and calmly in emergency or hazardous situations and adopt and effective course of action.Observing and remembering facts and details of incidents.Following oral and written instruction.Learning to operate firearms safely and skillfully;Obtaining information through interview, interrogation, and observation.Writing clear and accurate reports.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Communicating verbally in a clear and effective manner.Dealing tactfully and effectively with a wide range of different individuals and groups from the community.Must maintain a valid California Driver's License.Health Insurance: Medical, dental and vision insurance coverage offered to employees and dependents.Life Insurance: $75,000 death benefitSupplemental Short Term and Long Term Disability PlansHolidays: Paid Holidays and floating holidaysPaid Time Off (PTO)Flexible Spending Accounts: Voluntary health care or dependent care flexible spending accounts.PERS Retirement: Employer/Employee shared contributions.Deferred Compensation Plan: Voluntary participation in a 457 deferred compensation plan.
