Overview Research Assistant - ONC Radiation Oncology — SOM KC Radiation Oncology Research Assistant in Dr. Akhavan’s Laboratory in Radiation Oncology seeks a research professional to perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes. Confer with the principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the equipment as required. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Key Roles and Responsibilities Research Overview: Under the supervision and direction of the PI or other research staff perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes. Compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results. Generation of data and documentation of research performed for the preparation of published papers, as well as assistance on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance. Participate in regular communication with the PIs and Post Doctoral Fellow via lab meetings and personal discussions to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results. Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information. Order supplies and maintenance of equipment. Compliance Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Radiation Oncology Department, understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings. Qualifications Required Qualifications Work Experience : 4 Years of experience in a research lab. Education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications Education : Bachelor’s degree in science or similar study. Work Experience : Experience in a hospital laboratory. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
