Overview: Network Engineer Downtown Chicago - Onsite About The Role: We are a prop trading firm that trades our own capital in the options and equities markets. Our success is driven by cutting-edge, low-latency technology built in-house. We're seeking a Network Engineer to design, optimize, and maintain the high-performance network powering our trading infrastructure. What You'll Do:
- Design, implement, and support low-latency trading networks (LAN/WAN, colocation, exchange connectivity)
- Optimize Arista network infrastructure for speed, reliability, and minimal latency
- Configure and manage BGP, OSPF, multicast (IGMP/PIM), QoS, and network performance
- Provision and troubleshoot exchange, carrier, and market data connectivity
- Diagnose network issues using packet analysis, latency testing, and root-cause analysis
- Develop network automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions
- Enhance network monitoring and observability (Grafana, Prometheus, InfluxDB, Zabbix)
- Manage Palo Alto firewalls and network security policies
- Maintain network documentation, configurations, and operational runbooks
- Lead projects from design and implementation through deployment and support
- 5+ years of network engineering experience in low-latency or mission-critical environments
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, IGMP/PIM multicast, routing & switching
- Experience with Arista (preferred), Cisco, or Mellanox/NVIDIA networking Skilled in network troubleshooting, packet analysis (Wireshark/tcpdump), and performance tuning
- Python scripting, Git, and Ansible automation experience
- Strong Linux and shell scripting skills
- Experience with Palo Alto firewalls and network security
- Excellent communication and collaborative problem-solving skills
- CCNP/CCIE or equivalent experience preferred
- Trading/financial services and low-latency networking experience a plus
