Associate Director, Breast Oncology Statistics & Trials

The Department of Data Science at Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute seeks candidates with a strong background in statistics to become the Associate Director of the Breast Oncology Statistical Program. This person will work on clinical trials and translational research collaboratively with the Breast Oncology Program, directing the activities of junior statisticians within the group and leading the analysis of complex collaborative projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with basic scientists, clinical researchers, and faculty across Harvard. The position will be based in the Department of Data Science at DFCI with a Research Scientist track appointment in the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. It is a non‑tenure track faculty position providing a salary comparable to tenure‑track faculty, independence to choose projects, grant submission support, and the opportunity to hire and supervise a research team, while permitting the pursuit of external and internal funding for independent projects. Responsibilities Data Analysis – routinely directs and supervises data analytic activities of junior statisticians and leads complex projects. Study Design – trains, mentors, and oversees the design activities of junior statistical staff and participates in articulating collaborative vision and scientific program direction. Service to Dana‑Farber and Dana‑Farber/Harvard Cancer Center – independently represents the department on HCC and DFCI committees, including Scientific Review Committees and Institutional Review Board. Manuscript Preparation – directs and advises junior statisticians in working with investigators to prepare scientific manuscripts. Grant Preparation – provides expertise in consulting with investigators on all aspects of grant submissions, working with the grants manager on administrative aspects, including budget. Research Portfolio Management – advises on diversified responsibilities for themselves and junior statisticians, coordinates statisticians, and ensures investigators are aware of the path to statistical assistance. Mentoring and Supervisory Responsibilities – regularly mentors, advises, and evaluates junior statisticians in all aspects of their responsibilities and career development, functioning as team leader on projects. Qualifications PhD degree in Statistics or Biostatistics and five years of experience required, with experience in oncology and the design and analysis of clinical trials. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Computational Skills – knowledge of UNIX/Linux and statistical software such as R or SAS. Statistical Skills – expert in statistical methodology, software usage, coding, data analysis, and effective presentation of results; able to construct and implement complex study designs; experienced with reproducible research methods and assessing underlying assumptions. Collaboration – able to lead research teams and large projects, present complex research designs and results to clinical collaborators, and communicate ideas accurately in writing and verbally. Pay Transparency Statement The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
