Head of Events
$100kMetro Private Cinema
Salary ($100,000) + Commission
Job DetailsIf you love great hospitality, great events and the thrill of turning relationships into meaningful business, you might really like this job. If you also love movies, even better.
Metro Private Cinema is an upscale private cinema experience from the founder of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Our flagship Chelsea location features 20 private cinema suites available for movies, meetings, corporate events, private screenings, celebrations, sports, karaoke and gaming, paired with upscale contemporary dining, an ambitious wine and cocktail program and highly personalized service.
Metro is seeking a Head of Events to lead private event sales and drive significant revenue growth for the business.
This is a senior sales role for an experienced, proven hospitality or events professional. We are looking for someone who can pursue major accounts, build long-term relationships, develop new business and convert opportunities into meaningful revenue.
The opportunity is significant. This position offers a $100,000 base salary plus 6% commission, creating substantial earning potential for a high performer.
This is not an order-taking sales position. Metro already generates inbound interest, but the person we are looking for knows how to create business. We want someone who can identify companies, agencies, planners and organizations that should be doing business with Metro, get in front of the right decision-makers and close.
We are looking for a home run hitter.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Event Sales: Own Metro's private event sales strategy and sales performance. Drive the process from prospecting and initial inquiry through negotiation, contract and handoff to Operations.
Create New Business: Build a proactive business development engine targeting corporate clients, agencies, entertainment companies, event planners, executive assistants, luxury brands, organizations and other high-value prospects.
Pursue Major Accounts: Identify and cultivate high-value clients with the potential to generate significant individual events and recurring annual business. Develop relationships beyond individual bookings and position Metro as a long-term events partner.
Own the Pipeline: Maintain a disciplined, active sales pipeline with clear forecasting and rigorous follow-up. Know what is likely to close, where opportunities stand and what needs to happen next.
Deliver Against Revenue Goals: Take ownership of event sales targets and develop the activity, pipeline and relationships necessary to achieve them. Understand the numbers and adjust strategy when performance is behind plan.
Sell the Experience: Conduct compelling site visits, presentations and client meetings that bring Metro to life. Understand what a client is trying to accomplish and creatively use our cinemas, food, beverage, technology and entertainment capabilities to build an experience around it.
Maximize Event Value: Look beyond the initial request and identify opportunities to grow each piece of business through additional spaces, premium food and beverage, entertainment, custom programming and other enhancements.
Build Repeat Business: Turn successful events into lasting relationships. Develop a portfolio of repeat clients, nurture key accounts and create referral opportunities.
Know the Market: Maintain a strong understanding of the New York City private events landscape, competitive venues, client expectations and emerging opportunities. Know where Metro can win and pursue that business aggressively.
Develop Metro's Sales Reach: Help expand awareness of Metro within the corporate, agency, hospitality, entertainment and events communities through networking, outreach, partnerships and relationship development.
Partner with Operations: Work closely with Operations, Culinary and Service leadership to ensure what is sold can be executed exceptionally well. Maintain clear handoffs and communication so the client's experience matches what was promised.
Represent Metro: Serve as a polished, credible and enthusiastic ambassador for Metro with corporate decision-makers, event planners, agencies, movie studios, hospitality partners and private clients.
As Metro grows, the Head of Events will also play an important role in developing our broader events sales strategy and identifying opportunities across multiple Metro locations.
What Success Looks LikeSuccess in this role is straightforward: you substantially grow Metro's event revenue.
You create business instead of waiting for it.
You build a strong pipeline and know exactly what is in it. You develop relationships with clients capable of generating substantial and repeat business. You consistently pursue larger opportunities and turn successful events into long-term accounts.
You know your numbers. You forecast accurately. You close.
Just as importantly, clients trust you. They enjoy working with you, return to Metro and recommend us to others.
The right person will walk through our 20 private cinemas and immediately start thinking about the companies, brands, agencies, planners and organizations that should be using them.
Who We're Looking ForWe are looking for an experienced sales leader with strong hospitality instincts and a demonstrated ability to build business.
You may come from a luxury hotel, hospitality group, major event venue, private club, catering company, restaurant group, entertainment company or another premium experiential business. Cinema experience is not required.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have operated at the Director level or have held responsibility for sales across multiple venues, properties or markets.
What matters most is that you have already demonstrated the ability to sell high-value experiences, develop major accounts, build relationships and consistently turn opportunities into revenue.
The strongest candidates will demonstrate:
Proven Sales Performance: A track record of meeting or exceeding significant revenue goals and closing high-value business.
Business Development: Demonstrated success creating new opportunities through prospecting, networking and relationship development rather than relying primarily on inbound leads.
Senior-Level Experience: Previous Director-level, multi-unit or comparable senior sales responsibility with the maturity to take ownership of an important revenue channel.
Strategic Account Development: The ability to identify high-value prospects, develop relationships with decision-makers and turn individual opportunities into repeat accounts.
Hospitality: A genuine understanding of elevated service and the expectations of premium corporate and private clients.
Relationship Building: The credibility and interpersonal skills to build relationships with senior decision-makers, event planners, agencies and other influential partners.
Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of revenue goals, forecasting, pricing, negotiation and the economics of event sales.
Organization: Exceptional pipeline management, follow-up and attention to detail. Great salespeople lose business when they are disorganized. That doesn't work here.
Communication: Polished, persuasive and personable communication in writing, on the phone and face-to-face.
Ownership Mentality: Takes responsibility for results, follows through and doesn't wait for someone else to solve a problem.
Competitive Drive: Motivated by ambitious goals and excited by the opportunity to earn meaningful commission by growing the business.
Creativity: Able to look beyond a standard event package and help clients imagine experiences they may not have considered.
Experience & QualificationsMinimum 5 years of relevant event, hospitality or experiential sales experience
Previous Director-level, multi-unit or comparable senior sales experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding significant revenue and sales goals
Proven experience developing new business and high-value accounts
Experience selling corporate events, private events, hospitality, venues, catering or premium experiences
Experience managing a sophisticated sales pipeline and CRM
Strong understanding of private events and elevated food and beverage experiences
Experience conducting site visits, developing proposals, negotiating contracts and closing substantial business
Existing relationships within the NYC corporate, agency, event planning, entertainment or hospitality communities are a significant plus
Experience developing repeat and multi-event accounts
Comfortable learning and working across modern hospitality, CRM and operational technology
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to attend events, networking opportunities and client engagements, including occasional evenings or weekends when business needs require it
Titles matter less to us than results. We are looking for someone who has built business, exceeded goals and can demonstrate how they did it.
If you look at Metro and immediately see a substantial sales opportunity, we want to hear from you.
Compensation & BenefitsGreat talent deserves to be rewarded. This position is structured to provide meaningful upside for someone capable of materially growing Metro's event business.

Paid Time Off
