Physical Therapist (FTE 0.7)

To identify motor problems that may affect educational performance and consult with administration and staff regarding motor related issues. Provide direct services for students in accordance with physician's prescription. To assist students with skill development to help them function effectively in their educational setting.

4. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, walk short distances, and attend to personal care of students.

5. Exhibit proficiency with utilizing technology.

Consult and evaluate student referrals for physical therapy services.

Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of gross motor, range of motion, strength, and functional skills.

Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, REED meetings, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.

Provide recommendations regarding student eligibility for PT services and develop goals and objectives for students eligible to receive special education services.

Work with students, parents, teachers, and others in establishing and implementing a special education program in the least restrictive environment as identified by the student's IEP.

Develop, implement, and evaluate individual therapy plans based upon IEP goals and objectives.

Assess student growth and provide progress reports as required.

Maintain, prepare, and process the district's required documentation, which includes but not limited to the following: record of therapy services and consultation, individual student progress data, individual student case management, and Medicaid.

Establish and maintain colleague relationships with institutions, referral agencies, classroom staff, itinerant staff, and parents, maintaining and encouraging effective communication among these groups regarding student's needs.

Provide in-service training and coaching to educational staff, community organizations, and parents.

Serve as a resource person/consultant to the classroom teacher and administration; participate as a team member.

Make appropriate referrals to other disciplines and agencies.

Support with the provision of services and support with relevant agencies (e.g. referrals, equipment, physician scripts).

Adhere to the standards of practice of physical therapy services, the Code of Ethics as published by the American Physical Therapy Association.

Other duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent of Special Education.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Certified Staff contract.
