Job Title: Risk Manager Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Yes, willing to wait Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have stepdown acuity experience with the types of patients on this unit. Must be able to read strips. Description: Unit has 30 beds, all private rooms. Patient ratios are 1 to 4. Common diagnoses include strokes, trauma, and vascular issues. Patients may include femoral popliteal, carotids, DKA, amputations, and post-catheterizations with TR bands and femoral access. The unit can have 4 to 5 fresh carotids at a time. Sheaths are not pulled on this unit. RNs are required to titrate drips as per doctor’s orders, including Cardizem, Insulin, and Heparin. Charge Nurse is available 24/7; depending on unit needs, they may take a patient assignment. Night Charge Nurse always takes a patient assignment. There are 3 patient care technicians per shift with a patient ratio of 1:10. RT equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow, with stable ventilation goals in the future. Monitor technicians are available; however, RNs read, verify, and sign off on strips. Shifts are self-scheduled and allow for block scheduling as long as unit needs are met; block scheduling is not guaranteed. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Perm staff have a holiday rotation schedule. Travelers may be required to work weekends if needed. Floating may occur; travelers float first and may go to Medical Surgical/Tele or ICU for ACU status patients. Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets are not required, but if worn, they must be actual scrub jackets. Hoodies or sweat jackets are not allowed. On the first day, there is an introduction and shadowing on the unit, followed by additional shadowing before working independently. Cancellation policies allow for two shift cancellations per 13-week assignment. Charting system in use is EPIC.
