Major Duties include but are not limited to: Maintains and repairs city facilities; performs electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry maintenance and repair. Maintains airport buildings and facilities; maintains airport lighting; mows grass; replaces circuit boards. Maintains and repairs city street and traffic lights. Maintains and repairs recycling equipment. Maintains and repairs fuel system equipment; prepares monthly fuel reports; issues gas keys; replaces hoses and breakaway nozzles; oversees environmental tests and reports. Maintains and repairs city green houses. Inspects and maintains fire and life safety systems. Constructs and moves furniture in city buildings. Assists with building inspections as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Special Requirements Knowledge of modern construction methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment. Knowledge of building maintenance principles and practices. Knowledge of fuel system management principles. Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building system maintenance principles. Skill in interpersonal communication. Skill in performing building maintenance and repair functions. Skill in the use of hand and power tools. Skill in verbal and written communication. Skill in estimating quantity of materials accurately. The work consists of varied related facilities maintenance duties. The variety of systems to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair city facilities. Successful performance contributes to the provision of safe and well-maintained facilities. The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving prats, and irritating chemicals.
