Job Description
Respiratory Therapist

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Respiratory Therapist to provide exceptional respiratory care services to adult and geriatric patients. This role requires a high level of professionalism and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team.

Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist performs basic and critical respiratory care services as ordered by the physician and adheres to current departmental policies. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, administering therapies, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Essential Functions

• Assess and document the appropriateness of prescribed therapy, including making recommendations for patients receiving respiratory care services.
• Administer aerosol and oxygen therapy while maintaining patient charts.
• Draw arterial blood gases per policy and physician order.
• Provide care to patients on ventilators and assist in their management.
• Maintain records of treatment given, completing necessary paperwork and electronic medical records for charges and record-keeping.
• Participate in training and supervision of new employees while assisting in departmental operations.
• Educate nursing personnel on patient surveillance and equipment management post-installation.
• Implement drainage procedures and provide additional care regarding cardio-respiratory diseases.
• Offer suggestions regarding patient treatment and monitor pulmonary progress.

Education and Work Experience

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program is required.

Licenses/Certifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT) credential is preferred.
• Active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor is required.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is required at time of hire or within 90 days.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required at time of hire or within 90 days.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required at time of hire or within 90 days.
