Rhino Medical is leading the charge in seeking an experienced, Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician (MD/DO) for a locum tenens opportunity in Laurinburg, North Carolina .

This assignment offers scheduled day and night coverage in a community hospital emergency department averaging approximately 115 patient visits daily , supported by 4–5 Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) and nighttime tele-triage resources.

We are seeking a confident emergency physician who can work independently when needed, collaborate effectively with APCs, and manage the clinical demands of a busy emergency department.

Immediate coverage needs include November, December, and New Year's holiday shifts. Physicians must be available for at least some of the specifically requested dates.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.
• Independently manage emergency department patients across a broad range of acuity levels.
• Perform comprehensive and focused emergency medical assessments.
• Recognize and stabilize patients with time-sensitive and potentially life-threatening conditions.
• Provide emergency airway management, resuscitation, and stabilization when clinically indicated.
• Evaluate and manage cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal, infectious, traumatic, and other emergency presentations.
• Perform emergency medicine procedures appropriate to training, experience, and clinical privileges.
• Order and interpret laboratory studies, diagnostic imaging, and other appropriate investigations.
• Determine appropriate patient disposition, including discharge, observation, admission, or transfer.
• Collaborate with Advanced Practice Clinicians while maintaining appropriate physician oversight and clinical decision-making.
• Communicate effectively with nursing staff, consulting physicians, and other members of the emergency department team.
• Coordinate care transitions and patient handoffs between shifts.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely emergency department documentation.
• Demonstrate sound clinical judgment, adaptability, and professionalism in a dynamic emergency care environment.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
• Board Certification in Emergency Medicine.
• Active, unrestricted North Carolina medical license or eligibility to practice in North Carolina by the assignment start date.
• Current clinical competency in emergency medicine.
• Recent experience managing a hospital-based emergency department.
• Ability to function independently as the attending emergency physician.
• Experience working collaboratively with Advanced Practice Clinicians.
• Proficiency in emergency stabilization, resuscitation, and common emergency medicine procedures.
• Clean professional history, with no malpractice history.
• Ability to provide complete and accurate professional documentation promptly.
• Availability for at least some of the specified November, December, or January coverage dates.
• Strong communication, clinical decision-making, and patient care skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent experience in a community hospital emergency department.
• Familiarity with emergency departments managing approximately 100 or more daily visits.
• Experience working alongside multiple APCs.
• Comfort practicing during overnight shifts.
• Experience with tele-triage or observation-unit workflows.
• Availability for multiple consecutive shifts.
• Flexibility to provide coverage during Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's scheduling periods.
