Job Title: Junior Rangers Camp Leader Pay Range: $21.86 - $26.98 Status: Part-time, Non-Exempt Schedule: 20‑25 hours/week; shifts vary by location and may include evenings, weekends, and required trainings. Reports to: Camp Coordinator Program Hours of Operation: 8:00 AM – 5:00/6:00 PM (varies per location) Locations: LAUSD (SFV, South LA, South Gate, Huntington Park, West LA/Westwood), Garvey Elementary School District (Rosemead/San Gabriel/Monterey Park), Green Dot Public Schools (LA), Inner City Education Foundation (View Park), Aspire Public Schools, Brightstar Schools, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, Lennox School District (Lennox), Pomona Unified School District (Pomona), ABC Unified School District (Cerritos), and Hawthorne Unified School District (Hawthorne). Job Summary Junior Rangers Camp Leaders create a fun and positive learning environment for TK and Junior Rangers campers, supporting clusters of up to 10 participants. They work in outdoor summer settings and may serve in day camps, sleepaway camps, or both. The position is on‑site, requiring attendance at training sessions at the Woodcraft Rangers main office in Little Tokyo and on school sites. Role Overview Ensure students are always in a safe environment—physical and emotional—and promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful setting that embraces diversity. Develop and lead age‑appropriate program activities that are engaging, FUN, and aligned with the whole‑child approach (social‑emotional learning, skill building, self‑esteem, leadership, etc.) using the activity catalog. Monitor participant attendance and engagement to ensure active participation. Build positive relationships with program participants, colleagues, and stakeholders. Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to create culminating activities or events that showcase all participants’ work and accomplishments. Request required materials in a timely manner so the Camp Coordinator can ensure availability and stay within budget. Comply with all safety requirements and emergency protocols; keep training and required certifications up‑to‑date. May be required to attend off‑site field trips. Participate in staff development training, approx. 15 hours across spring intersessional days or weekends. Be accountable to the Camp Coordinator and Program Manager for assigned duties. Complete other related duties as assigned. Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent FBI & DOJ Livescan clearance TB Test clearance First Aid & CPR certification (provided by WR) Experience working well with young children and/or youth Good oral and written communication Computer literacy and willingness to learn At least 6 months experience supervising a group of early‑education aged children in a school or recreational setting, or 6 units in early education or child development Must successfully pass an assessment test evaluating skills in math, reading comprehension, and spelling For ABC Unified School District (Cerritos) candidates only—48+ college units or ABC Unified para‑educator test completion Physical Demands Frequent standing during working hours Regular use of hands for tasks such as operating a computer and handling objects Frequent talking, hearing, and reaching with hands and arms Occasional lifting or moving of up to 40 pounds Work Environment The work environment includes regular exposure to a computer monitor; noise level reflects a typical office setting.
