Equitas Academy prepares students for college, careers, and life pursuits, and inspires them to be champions of equity. We currently operate four Elementary Schools, two Middle Schools and one High School and serve over 2,000 scholars in the Pico Union Community of Los Angeles. 

The Family Engagement Manager serves as a bridge between families, school staff, and community partners to promote meaningful family engagement and student success. Grounded in the Community Schools model, this role builds trusting relationships with families, coordinates family-centered programming, and ensures family voice is embedded in school decision-making. The Manager works collaboratively with school teams and community partners to remove barriers to engagement and strengthen family-school partnerships that support whole-child outcomes. The manager would be an integral part of school planning, leading program planning and aligning work to school vision and priorities.

Grade Levels: 

We are hiring two Family Engagement Managers, one at a middle school (EQ4) and one at a High School (ECHS). 

 

Work Location:

This position requires working from a School site location and does not have a work from home component. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings, is required.

Key Responsibilities

Family Engagement & Partnership Building (15%)

• Develop and implement a family engagement plan aligned to school goals and Community Schools priorities to increase quantity and quality of family engagement opportunities.

 

• Build authentic, trust-based relationships with families through consistent outreach, communication, and presence on campus (bi-weekly flyering, presence at arrival, dismissal and all family events).

• Coordinate family workshops, events, and learning opportunities (e.g., academic support, SEL, attendance, college/career readiness).

• Co-lead and co-plan for monthly Cafecito in collaboration with Principal and SOM 

• Lead a parent volunteer program with regular and consistent volunteers to support with student supervision, academics and school-wide projects.

• Train and prepare family leaders to serve as primary advocates and give public-facing testimonials during events, such as Charter Renewals, district hearings, and community forums

 

Community Schools Implementation (20%)

• Serve as the school lead for planning, coordinating, and managing community schools efforts, setting priorities, aligning partners and resources, and working closely with school leadership to ensure effective, accountable, and data-informed implementation of family supports.

• Partner with community-based organizations to connect families to supports and resources (e.g., mental health, housing, food access, adult education).

• Assist in coordinating wraparound services and family-centered interventions.

• Participate in needs assessments, asset mapping, continuous improvement efforts related to family engagement.

• Lead the Community Schools Advisory committee

• Implement strong Tier 1 family support systems and ensure equitable access to Tier 1 supports

 

Communication & Outreach (15%)

 

• Serve as a key point of contact for families, ensuring communication is accessible, culturally responsive, and multilingual as needed.

• Be highly visible and accessible to families during school arrivals, school dismissals, family events, community events, family-teacher conferences, and any other moments when there is high family presence on campus.

• Support family communication platforms, ensure all families are on Parent Square and know how to access it and receive regular/proactive communication through newsletters and meetings.

• Lead staff to improve family-facing communication and engagement practices through creation of processes and developing professional development opportunities 

• Communicate with families new to Equitas to support with resources and assist in building connections with the school and other families 

School-wide Support and Coordination of Services Team (COST) (20%)

• Establish and facilitate a multidisciplinary team and a centralized referral system to identify, screen, and prioritize students’ academic, social-emotional, and physical needs.

• Act as the primary bridge between the school and community partners, linking students and families to specific interventions (e.g., mental health, housing, tutoring) while ensuring no duplication of services.

• Maintain a data-driven tracking system to monitor the progress of every referred student, ensuring follow-up occurs and interventions are adjusted based on student outcomes.

• Train staff on early intervention signs and analyze school-wide referral trends to identify service gaps, advocating for new partnerships to meet unmet student needs.

• Partner with teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff to align family engagement with academic and student support efforts.

Chronic Absenteeism (20%)

• Lead the school’s plan to reduce chronic absenteeism through SART meetings, home visits and proactive and asset based contacts with families. 

• Monitor attendance data regularly to identify students at risk of chronic absenteeism and partner with MTSS and COST to implement targeted, tiered interventions.

• Conduct proactive, asset-based outreach to families (calls, meetings, and home visits as appropriate) to understand root causes of absences, offer support and co-create attendance improvement plans.

• Connect families to wraparound services and community-based resources (e.g., mental health, housing, food access, transportation) to remove barriers to consistent attendance.

• Track outreach efforts, intervention outcomes, and attendance trends to inform continuous improvement and support schoolwide attendance goals.

• Integrate other staff members (SOMs, Teachers, counselor, etc) into plans to reduce chronic absenteeism and lead communication through huddles and professional development 

 

Data, Documentation & Continuous Improvement (5%)

• Input, analyze and determine trends/interventions for Attendance and COST data. This may require entering data into multiple data sites.

• Track family engagement activities, participation, and outcomes.

• Use data and family feedback to inform planning and improve engagement strategies.

• Support reporting requirements related to Community Schools or grant-funded initiatives.

• Complete Annual reporting 

 

Network Team Collaboration (5%)

 

• Collaborate with a team of Family Engagement Managers to plan Network wide supports for families (ex Resource Fairs, food drives/deliveries, community partner events, etc)

• Design, document, and continuously refine clear, standardized processes for priority team functions, incorporating regular team feedback and demonstrate ownership through proactive leadership, as evidenced by consistent implementation, improved team efficiency, and increased clarity in roles and expectations. (ex processes for annual reporting, COST data collection, SART or Home Visits) 

Qualifications:

• Fluency in Spanish Required – Must confidently read, write, speak, and present in Spanish in professional settings

• AA degree or a minimum of 60 semester units required 

• BA degree highly preferred

• At least two years experience working with youth and families required

• At least two years experience in a role that manages schedules, facilities, staff, or program development

• At least two years experience in community engagement, program coordination, and advocacy (preferred)

• Flexibility to work outside of standard hours when needed

• Current CPR and 1st Aid Certificate or within 3 months of employment 

• Criminal clearance, including fingerprints and TB Test required prior to employment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrated ability in working with youth, parents, and community leaders

• Strong organization skills and calendaring skills

• Strong communication skills, both oral and written

• Ability to gather quantitative and observational data and monitor program trends 

• Comfortable making progress amid uncertainty and pivoting as priorities shift

Salary:

Competitive salary, commensurate with experience. Salary range starts at $70,000
