Safety Coordinator
Price Industries
The Site Safety Coordinator is a visible, approachable floor level partner who helps employees and Operations recognize exposures, apply approved safety requirements, and verify that safeguards work in practice. Through meaningful employee engagement, risk focused observations, training support, timely reporting and disciplined follow through, the Coordinator helps build a workplace where hazards are raised early, learning is shared across shifts, and safe work is integrated into daily operations. The position is a developmental role designed to build sound technical judgment, influence and future EHS leadership capability.
Responsibilities
Shift Coverage and Handoffs • Consistent expectations: Apply the same core safety standards and intervention authority on first, second and third shifts, adapting engagement and delivery methods to the shift's operations, staffing, hazards and language needs. • On-shift presence: Maintain meaningful floor presence during assigned hours, including start-up, changeovers, non-routine tasks, maintenance, contractors and other higher risk activities occurring on that shift. • Continuity: Document open hazards, temporary controls, events and follow-up commitments; communicate critical items through documented shift handoffs and promptly contact designated on call leaders where required. Escalate high risk conditions immediately rather than deferring them to first shift. • Coverage arrangements: Use approved escalation and emergency response arrangements when Safety management is not physically on site; shift assignment does not create independent management approval authority.
Authority and Accountability Boundaries • Intervention: May stop or pause work presenting an apparent immediate hazard, initiate established protective steps, and promptly notify accountable Operations and Safety leaders, consistent with applicable law and Price policy. • Approved routine corrections: May facilitate and document lower tier (Tier 1) corrections under approved standards and site governance; confirm completion within delegated authority. • Escalation and approvals: Escalate high potential exposures, repeat conditions, disputes, overdue high-risk actions, and Tier 2/Tier 3 issues to appropriate Safety and operational leaders. Does not set enterprise technical standards, authorize exceptions, approve equipment commissioning or independently close Tier 2/Tier 3 actions. • Operational ownership: Supports rather than replaces the legal, supervisory and operational responsibilities of employers, managers, supervisors, competent/qualified persons and designated committee members.
U.S. and Canadian Application • Jurisdiction specific compliance: Apply Price's approved North American safety management system along with the applicable federal, state, provincial, territorial and local legal requirements for the assigned location. Differences in legal duties, records, notices, training, worker participation, committees and work refusal procedures are administered through approved local requirements. • U.S. sites: Support applicable OSHA and state plan requirements, including relevant training, hazard communication, incident recordkeeping and reporting through designated responsible personnel. • Canadian sites: Support applicable provincial/territorial occupational health and safety requirements and, where applicable, federal requirements; respect workers' rights to know, participate and refuse unsafe work, and support required workplace safety and health / joint health and safety committee processes. Accountable management and designated statutory participants retain their respective legal functions. • Local adaptations: Support required language access, documentation formats, emergency coordination and approved site procedures. Do not assume a uniform legal requirement or committee structure across Canadian jurisdictions.
Working Relationships • Site teams: Hourly employees, shift supervisors, Plant Manager and Operations leadership. • EHS leadership: Safety Supervisor/Manager, Senior Safety Manager and corporate Safety leadership. • Partners: Maintenance, Engineering, Human Resources, Training, environmental specialists, occupational health/claims partners and applicable worker committees or representatives.
Measures of Effectiveness • Risk reduction: Quality of risk identification, employee participation, critical control verification and timely escalation of high potential/repeat exposures. • Execution: Accuracy and timeliness of reporting, training and recordkeeping, inspections, corrective action follow through and shift handoffs. • Relationships and development: Constructive Operations partnership, trusted employee engagement, proactive communication, demonstrated learning and sound use of authority. • Outcomes: Contribution to verified and sustainable risk reduction; injury counts alone do not define individual performance.
Qualifications and Growth Potential • Education and experience: Relevant occupational safety education, certificate, diploma, degree or equivalent practical experience. Manufacturing experience preferred; candidates with demonstrated capability and strong development potential may be considered. • Knowledge and skills: Foundational understanding of occupational safety principles and site hazards; ability to interpret and apply approved procedures and learn jurisdiction specific requirements; clear communication, basic data analysis, sound judgment, computer/system proficiency and disciplined follow through. • Personal capabilities: Approachable and respectful floor presence; curiosity, integrity, willingness to learn, ability to influence without direct authority, and confidence to raise concerns and seek help. • Desired credentials: First aid/CPR and recognized safety certificates/designations are assets as relevant to the site; specialized qualifications must be obtained before independently performing regulated or higher risk duties. • Professional development: Supported development may include incident investigation, risk assessment, training facilitation, regulatory knowledge and leadership responsibilities as competence and opportunities grow.
Work Environment and Schedule Manufacturing environment involving industrial equipment, mobile equipment, noise, variable temperatures, dust and other site specific exposures. Regular floor presence, walking and standing, appropriate PPE, and occasional schedule adjustments may be required to support operational needs, emergency response, coverage and training across shifts. Essential functions and reasonable accommodation are determined in accordance with applicable law and company policy. This description summarizes expected responsibilities and may be adjusted for organizational needs, applicable legal requirements, site risks and authorized assignments. It does not alter statutory responsibilities or established approval authorities. PI123 We are the leading provider of non-residential air distribution products across North America.
