Emergency Medicine Physician

Provide high-quality, patient-centered emergency medicine care as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients within scope of practice and specialty Manage comprehensive, individualized care for emergency medicine patients and families in the emergency department and immediate post-discharge ambulatory setting Coordinate hospitalization, discharge planning, referrals, follow-up procedures, and tests Complete pre-procedure evaluations and integrated assessments Order additional tests or consultations in collaboration with emergency medicine faculty or established guidelines and protocols Perform diagnostic tests and communicate results Consult with and communicate abnormal findings to clinic and hospital staff Document clinical evaluations, plans of care, interventions, and outcomes in medical records Identify unstable or complex situations and initiate appropriate emergency care Apply critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning to patient and family needs Educate nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients, families, and the community Complete clinical competencies and maintain current knowledge Serve as a resource and professional role model for staff Collaborate with leaders and staff on patient-outcome improvements and problem solving Support development and implementation of changes in emergency medicine practice Participate in interdisciplinary care, program development, education, committees, task forces, clinical trials, and research studies Document hours and submit billing reports as appropriate Review emergency medicine data and recommend or implement changes Perform other assigned duties and projects Requirements Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing (nurse practitioner pathway) National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers (nurse practitioner pathway) Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia (nurse practitioner pathway) American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and ATLS certification required Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree as Physician Assistant required (physician assistant pathway) Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant training program required Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred Eligible new graduates will be considered ACNP or FNP considered American Heart Association PALS certification encouraged Masters level education as Medical/Surgical Physician Assistant preferred Proficiency with computers Strong communication skills Ability to lift, move, stoop, reach, position, stand, walk, and carry patients, materials, and equipment weighing 40+ pounds Ability to work protracted or irregular hours and around biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased persons, water, and electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in patient-centered emergency medicine care, including assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients. Proficient in interdisciplinary collaboration, critical thinking, and maintaining clinical competencies in a fast-paced environment.
