The Opportunity The Managing Director will have the opportunity to: Develop and execute strategic plans for the growth of the organization. Drive the process to acquire new clients and engagements and be responsible for all aspects of assigned engagements. Direct the development of processes and techniques to improve operations and develop marketable service offerings. Provide industry and technical knowledge to contribute to client engagements. Manage a consulting solution group with minimal oversight. Scope and size of projects are generally large, high‑volume, or a significant portion of a larger project. The MD may lead large‑size efforts or project teams and delegate work assignments through various phases of an engagement. May manage projects from prospect to client deliverable. Must meet one or more of the following criteria for Managing Director designation: either leads a significant number of direct staff, runs a specific practice area, or manages one or more key strategic account relationships. Key Responsibilities Contribute to or lead the development and implementation of the strategic direction and objectives of a service offering or business line. Manage employees in engagements and provide input for performance management and compensation. Lead development of products and/or services. Guide the career development and provide mentoring to other employees in the firm. Evaluate employee contribution to specific engagements. Matrix Management: Transfer knowledge, capabilities, and skills to improve others’ knowledge and skill levels. Consulting Capability: Create leverage and maintain productive key relationships within client organizations. Seek opportunities with existing or new clients. Actively pursue the acquisition of new engagements. Identify and address critical success factors for complex engagements. Simultaneously manage multiple engagements as necessary. Secure receivables from clients during and after completion of engagements. Develop and encourage creation of profitable service products to be sold to clients in defined service offerings. Industry Knowledge Capability Lead delivery of innovative solutions from concept through implementation for client engagements. Serve as an adviser to engagement teams and lead quality reviews of assigned engagements. Project Management Capability Manages and leads all aspects of an engagement including staffing and operations as well as client relationships. Defines and develops a knowledge management strategy and plan for engagements. Ascertains risks to the success of engagements and minimizes or eliminates their impact. Manages multiple projects at any one time, as necessary. Manages highly complex or high volume engagements with factors such as enterprise‑wide or multiple business units; manages other contractors/vendors on the project; high level of technology integration; or cross‑functional and/or multi‑dimensional teams. Scope: Billable hours and business‑development targets established in annual goal‑setting process. Management Responsibilities May supervise work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of subordinates. May have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction. May also act as a project manager of a project team. Positions supervised include Analyst, Sr Analyst, Consultant, Manager, Principal Consultant and Director. Individuals comprising this team may vary by project. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience. Has successfully managed multiple engagements simultaneously. Contributor or leader to acquire new engagements. 12‑15+ years in a business/consulting environment. Experience selling and delivering consulting work in energy markets, including but not limited to oil, gas and power industries. Experience defining and executing business growth strategies into new or existing markets. Preferred skills: extensive knowledge in area of specialization; advanced business development capability; business and consulting management skills; people‑management skills including recruiting, evaluation, and mentoring; advanced knowledge of consulting processes; extensive client‑management and negotiation skills; advanced knowledge of marketplace; advanced interpersonal skills. Preferred consultant skills: business acumen, comfort around higher management, dealing with ambiguity, learning on the fly. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience. Has successfully managed multiple engagements simultaneously. Contributor or leader to acquire new engagements. 12‑15+ years in a business/consulting environment.
