Your role at a glance: The Data Center Technician provides a working level of data center knowledge and is responsible for the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Develop creative approaches to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and implement new strategies. Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems across Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Life Safety, and Building Monitoring and Control areas. Test performance of electromechanical assemblies and electronic voltmeters; read blueprints, schematics, diagrams; inspect parts for surface defects; install electrical or electronic parts and hardware using hand tools; align, fit, or assemble component parts. Analyze systems to ensure best practices for both internal and external customers; provide feedback to DCO Engineering on effectiveness of existing standards and processes. Work with contractors and consultants to review quality assurance for all system expansions, corrections, and upgrades; work with CF Ops Lead Technician to track and complete preventive and predictive maintenance program. Manage systems to avoid unplanned customer-impacting events; determine maintenance requirements for mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems. Perform other duties as assigned; maintain regular, predictable attendance. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems used in a data center environment, including electrical distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, STS, ATS, PDU, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH, pre‑action sprinkler systems. Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and compliance issues, building codes related to fire life safety. Current knowledge of industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA and state regulations). Familiarity with data trending/tracking and analysis and ability to utilize a PC‑based integrated critical monitoring system. Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems (chilled water, pumps, HVAC equipment, humidification, water treatment, VFDs, generators, UPS, diesel, fuel systems). Excellent communication skills; proficiency with MS Office Suite; ability to coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors. Ability to learn quickly, operate in high stress environments, multi‑task, and maintain rigorous process‑driven team environment; ability to operate hand and machine tools and electrical tools; forklift endorsement. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE L1: High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree or equivalent education and at least 2 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (preferably a data center, hospital, semiconductor, or power plant). CPR/First Aid and NFPA70E certification required; OSHA approved forklift certification required or obtainable. L2: Associate of Science in Technology degree or equivalent education and at least 3 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities. CPR/First Aid and NFPA70E certification required; OSHA approved forklift certification required or obtainable. High School Diploma or GED required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Primarily walking, standing, bending with some sitting. Communicate effectively with verbal, visual, and listening skills; close visual work on computer. Dexterity of hands and fingers; operate equipment and computer keyboard, mouse. Able to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 50 pounds; climb ladders and work on raised platform. WORK CONDITIONS Data Center environment with varying temperatures and loud noises. Potential extensive daily usage of workstation or computer. Must work on‑site; no telecommuting permitted. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must be willing to be part of the after‑hours notification and escalation protocol. Must wear leather close‑toed shoes with a solid rubber sole. COMPENSATION Hourly base salary $33.00 - $61.25, eligible for overtime pay according to local state and federal wage and hour requirements. A monthly stipend provides for use of a personal mobile device if applicable. All regular full‑time employees are eligible for an annual bonus; payout is dependent on individual and company performance.
