Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician

The Buildings and Grounds Department of the Mifflin County School District is accepting applications for Anticipated Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician. Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance on all school district buildings, equipment and grounds. Must have high school diploma or GED, be able to read, write and speak English and have a valid PA driver's license. Act 34, 151 and Federal Act 114 Clearances are required prior to the first day of employment. School health physical with TB test required prior to the first day of employment. Mifflin County School District requires new employees to have the Act 126 training completed prior to starting with the District. Title: Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician

Supervised by: Director of Buildings and Grounds and 2nd Shift Buildings and Grounds Supervisor

Reports to: Director of Buildings and Grounds, 2nd Shift Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, and/or Building Principal

Assigned Time: 6:30 a.m. 3:00 p.m.

Job Summary: Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance on all school district buildings and equipment.

Level of Authority: Perform duties with high level of initiative and with limited supervision. Expected to perform all routine assignments independently following established district policies, procedures and practices and following assigned work schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess high school diploma or GED.
  • Must possess valid PA Driver's License.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a medical examination.
  • Must be able to obtain the necessary clearances, required by PDE.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Must possess three years of experience in Industrial or Commercial Maintenance or pass equivalency test.
  • Must possess leadership qualities.
  • Must be willing to further his/her education or training in the maintenance field to include any advancement in district technology.
  • Must pass initial screening test and demonstrate knowledge of General Construction.
  • Must possess ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing problems.
  • Must possess ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and plumbing blueprints or drawings.
  • Must possess appropriate licenses or certificates associated with skill areas where required.
  • Must possess ability to prepare and maintain a Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and crawl spaces.
  • Must be able to work off of ladder, lifts, and scaffolding.
  • Must be concerned for the safety and health of all buildings and grounds occupants.
  • Must have the ability to work with and maintain goodwill among a variety of people.
  • Must have strong self-motivation and ability to follow established procedures and meet standards while working unsupervised.

Special Qualifications:

  • Must have completed a two year accredited Certificate Program or hold an Associate Degree in related maintenance field (Specific area will be provided in the posting: Construction, Electrician, General, Vehicle and Equipment Repair, Landscaping (Grounds Crew), or HVAC).
  • HVAC applicants must possess Universal HVAC Technician Certificate EPA Clean Air Section 608.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure district security program is maintained.
  • Strive to prevent fire and health hazards.
  • Report items in need of repair or those of a hazardous nature.
  • Strive for effective economics in the District.
  • Be on call for emergency or unusual situations.
  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions, be trained by other personnel, and train co- workers when necessary.
  • May be required to assist Maintenance and Grounds personnel or complete assigned Maintenance and Grounds tasks.
  • May be required to deliver supplies and move furniture and equipment throughout the district.
  • Must possess knowledge of Pneumatic Control Systems.
  • Must possess knowledge of Automated Temperature Control Systems.
  • Must be capable of performing General Construction.
  • Must maintain lock, key, and latching systems for all district buildings.
  • Mow grass during the growing season, trims trees and shrubs, and fertilize as needed.
  • Line and maintain all outdoor athletic fields.
  • Plow snow and cinder parking lots as needed.
  • Need to keep accurate and up-to-date records on all vehicles, tractors, hand mowers, and other machinery assigned within the District in order to eliminate unnecessary down time.
  • Service emergency generators.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Director or 2nd Shift Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

Additional Landscaping (Grounds Crew) Responsibilities:

  • Ice-melt to all buildings district wide.
  • Bid supplies in the summer (teacher & custodial) district wide.
  • Any deliveries from the Maintenance Building that need to go out to schools during the school year.
  • Copy paper districtwide.
  • Moves kitchen equipment as requested.
  • Remove and transport food when freezers are not cooling.
  • Unload trucks for fund raising districtwide.
  • Pick-up miscellaneous orders at Wal-Mart for all schools.
  • Haul miscellaneous junk and metal from schools to scrap yard.
  • Move teacher items when transferring to different schools. This could include files, boxes, and filing cabinets.
  • Deliver and Pick up tables and chairs for Kid Connection.
  • Deliver fuel and mixed fuel to all buildings for mowers, weed eaters and blowers.

General Repairs and Maintenance:

  • Repair benches when necessary.
  • Dig any necessary ditches for miscellaneous electric or cable lines to be laid in ground.
  • Clean storm drains.
  • Clean roof gutters and drains.
  • Empty garbage cans at athletic fields.

Sporting Events/Mitchell Field:

  • In the spring restore piping to be able to turn water on at Mitchell Field
  • Roll all ball fields in the spring.
  • Set up disc cages for track at the high school.
  • Set up practice high jump and pole vault mats.
  • Line for spring sports to include 2 baseball fields, 4 softballs fields and 1 field hockey field.
  • Also line for field events for track at MCHS (game fields are lined weekly and practice fields every 7-10 days).
  • Drag in field and line for each game for softball and baseball.
  • Spread diamond tech on softball and baseball fields.
  • Install bases.
  • Remove and/or repair all playground equipment.
  • Haul trash from Mitchell Field to land fill.
  • Haul wrestling mats to LIS from MCMS for Elementary Tournaments.
  • Install tarps on fence at Mitchell Field for football games.
  • Line for fall sports to include 3 practice fields, 1 band field, 1 field hockey field, 3 soccer fields and 1 playing football field (game fields are lined weekly and practice fields every 7-10 days).
  • Haul goals and return.
  • Line for cross country for each meet at IVES.
  • Put benches and garbage cans out for each field event.
  • Clean restrooms at Mitchell Field for each event.
  • Aerate all athletic fields districtwide spring and fall.
  • Prepare Mitchell Field for winter: shut off water and water heaters, drain water heaters and coolers, remove valve and fittings in restrooms, concession stands, and under steel bleachers, blow out all water lines, put anti-freeze in all drains and commodes, remove ice machines and water coolers and shut off water.
  • Do all minor maintenance and repairs at the Grounds Building and all Athletic Field.
  • Set-up and monitor watering Mitchell Field.
  • Over seed and fertilize and repair playing fields during seasons.
  • Clean up football stadium after an average of 27 in house football games, 4 days of pee-wee football and one special needs football game.
  • Move football equipment.
