Visiting Assistant Professor of Lighting Design Location: Claremont, California (Pomona College, part of the Claremont Colleges) Responsibilities Teach four courses per academic year: Intro to Lighting Design, Intro to Technical Theatre, Lighting Technology, and Advanced Lighting Design. Design the lighting for one departmental show each year. Supervise independent studies and/or senior design projects as needed. Participate actively in the life of the department. Engage in practice and professional development within the field, as encouraged. Essential Functions Understand and embody the goals of theatre education within the liberal arts mission of the college. Create a supportive, inclusive community for all students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds. Uplift diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion in pedagogy, creative activity, and professional outlook. Qualifications M.F.A. or equivalent experience required. Teaching experience at the college level preferred. Significant body of professional work outside academia preferred. Employment Details Start date: July 1, 2026. Fall semester classes begin August 31, 2026; spring semester classes begin January 19, 2027. New Faculty Orientation occurs in the weeks before the start of fall classes. This is a non‑tenure‑track instructional position and does not require student advising, faculty service, or participation in faculty governance. Salary and Benefits Salary range: $75,000–$80,000. No travel or moving expenses are provided. Salary is commensurate with rank and teaching experience.
