Maintenance Technician II

The Maintenance Technician II works under minimal supervision to set up, adjust, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain conveyors, automation, robotics, and facility systems while ensuring safe, reliable production and consistent quality. This role also supports facility projects, mentors junior technicians, and documents all maintenance activities in computerized systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, routine inspections, and ad-hoc repairs on conveyors, automation systems, robotics, and ancillary equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Record all maintenance issues in the maintenance log for each production line and ensure accurate, timely documentation of work performed.
• Document all maintenance activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and ticketing systems, maintaining accurate records of operating logs for fire pumps, generators, HVAC equipment, and other routinely tested facility systems.
• Mentor maintenance personnel by helping them develop appropriate skill sets and equipment knowledge, and provide ongoing guidance and training as needed.
• Assist maintenance mechanics with tasks that require two people or when operational needs demand additional support to complete work safely and efficiently.
• Perform facility and building project work such as light bulb and ballast replacement, door repairs, furniture installation, ceiling tile replacement, carpentry tasks, plumbing repairs, and maintaining operation logs.
• Assemble and test equipment to verify correct operation and production performance, ensuring equipment meets operational standards.
• Analyze and record causes of production delays on daily production reports and initiate procedures to resolve equipment malfunctions.
• Examine defects and analyze spoilage causes, implement corrective actions where possible, and verify that these actions effectively eliminate recurring problems.
• Obtain and maintain certification on industrial lift equipment, including pickers, reach trucks, skates, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and similar material handling equipment.
• Oversee assigned projects such as minor space renovations, inventory management initiatives, contractor oversight, and building efficiency improvements.
• Oversee, inspect, and monitor routine maintenance performed by junior engineers, ensuring quality standards are met and providing coaching where necessary.
• Operate material handling equipment, such as fork trucks, safely and in compliance with site procedures.
• Write clear documents and reports using computers and standard office software to communicate maintenance activities and project status.
• Read and interpret technical information, including schematics, blueprints, and small-print drawings, to support troubleshooting and repair activities.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures, including Lock Out/Tag Out and Arc Flash protocols, and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while maintaining equipment.
• Identify and eliminate potential equipment safety hazards to maintain a safe work environment for all team members.
• Work overtime and respond to on-call requests as needed to support critical operations and unplanned maintenance needs.
• Travel up to approximately 10% of the time for business purposes, both within and outside the state, as required for training, projects, or support of other facilities.

Essential Skills

• Experience as a maintenance technician or in a similar industrial maintenance role, preferably in a distribution or manufacturing environment, with at least 6 months to 1 year of plant or maintenance experience.
• Hands-on experience working with conveyors, automation systems, robotics equipment, and related mechanical and electrical components.
• Proficiency in mechanical systems, including motors, pneumatics, and industrial equipment installation, repair, and adjustment.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in both mechanical and electrical systems, including the ability to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
• Experience with electrical maintenance, including working with 3-phase power and reading electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Fundamental understanding of machinery and industrial equipment operation and maintenance.
• Experience working with inputs, outputs, and PLC logic systems, including the ability to troubleshoot these systems.
• Ability to document work accurately in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and related ticketing systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to lift, move, and carry 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly, as required by the role.
• Ability to bend, twist, reach, push, and lift for extended periods on a daily basis.
• Ability to frequently move and lift supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and other detailed documentation, including small print.
• Ability to write clear documents and reports using computers and standard writing tools.
• Commitment to following safety procedures such as Lock Out/Tag Out and Arc Flash requirements and consistent use of PPE.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime and be available for on-call support as needed.
• Willingness to learn new equipment and technologies as they are introduced into the facility.
• Willingness to travel up to approximately 10% of the time for business purposes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a technical or mechanical environment, particularly in logistics, distribution, or manufacturing settings.
• Experience with logistics operations and conveyor systems in a distribution center environment.
• Basic to intermediate skill level in multiple computer software packages, including Microsoft Excel, for data entry, reporting, and analysis.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and structured maintenance repair practices.
• Familiarity with CMMS platforms and digital ticketing systems used to track maintenance requests and work orders.
• Ability to mentor and train junior technicians and engineers, including providing guidance on troubleshooting and maintenance best practices.
• Experience overseeing contractors and managing small to mid-sized facility projects such as space renovations and efficiency improvements.
• Comfort working with industrial lift equipment such as pickers, reach trucks, skates, boom lifts, and scissor lifts, including obtaining necessary certifications.
• Strong attention to detail, especially in documenting production delays, analyzing spoilage causes, and validating corrective actions.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to new equipment and technologies as they are brought online in a dynamic operational environment.

Work Environment

The work environment involves frequent interaction with conveyors, automation systems, robotics, fire pumps, generators, HVAC equipment, and other facility infrastructure. You will spend most of the day on your feet, working both on the production floor and in facility areas, often around moving machinery and material handling equipment. The role requires regular use of ladders, stairs, and elevated work platforms, as well as working at heights and in various positions, including overhead and lying down, to access equipment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, and safety procedures such as Lock Out/Tag Out and Arc Flash protocols are strictly followed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $90480.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
