Certificated Teacher - Middle School - Humanities (ENG/SS) JobID: 12873 Job Details Position Type: Certificated / Middle School Teacher Date Posted: 5/29/2026 Location: To be determined Date Available: 09/02/2026 Days of the Week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Position Summary Teachers help students learn skills and develop attitudes and appreciations which will lead them toward the fulfillment of the District's goals of education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform classroom teaching and other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee. Teach and follow the recommended District Student Exit Outcomes at each level and subject area. Keep current on educational research, trends, and practices. Integrate a variety of instructional strategies and curriculum content. Establish immediate and long‑range objectives that align with district and building curricula. Prepare effective lesson plans to meet objectives and motivate students with interesting and challenging content. Provide clear explanations, appropriate assignments, and directions. Organize the classroom setting to support learning. Evaluate individual student progress regularly and maintain records for report cards and parent conferences. Collaborate with building subject‑area teachers to develop and align curriculum, instruction, and interdisciplinary projects. Enlist counselors, administration, and support personnel when appropriate. Set clear classroom behavior parameters. Discipline students in a firm and controlled manner. Encourage courtesy, self‑control, respect, and responsibility among students. Enforce school rules consistently. Build professional rapport with individual students. Participate in extracurricular responsibilities. Required Qualifications Current Washington State Teacher's Certificate with appropriate subject‑area endorsement(s). Consistent work‑schedule hours. Criminal background clearance. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to maintain productive working relationships with colleagues. Operation of modern office equipment, including microcomputers and related software. Instructional leadership skills. Organization and prioritization of tasks. Independent work with minimal supervision. Adaptation of instructional materials and strategies to accommodate diverse skill levels. Application of current educational trends and practices. Teaching in multicultural and mainstream settings. Use of technology to enhance instruction. Fair and consistent treatment of all students. Guidance and assistance to students. Reliability and punctuality in meeting responsibilities. Compliance with school board policies and administrative procedures. Attention to detail and efficient performance of duties without close supervision. Effective safety and security practices within work routines. Positive customer relations with staff and service providers. Collaboration with district staff and promotion of teamwork. Adherence to ethical and professional standards, including confidentiality obligations. Effective communication with parents, staff, students, and the public in a multicultural community. Work Environment The work environment is indoors, near video displays, with moderate noise levels. Work Schedule This position is a school‑year position. Reporting Relationship The position reports to the building administrator or designee. Representation Federal Way Education Association (FWEA). Level of Compensation Federal Way Education Association Salary Schedule.
