Maintenance Technician I - Streets

Streets Crew MemberThe City of Roanoke is seeking crew members to work on the Streets crew in the Transportation division of Public Works. This role performs skilled work operating heavy motorized equipment in support of roadway maintenance, repair, and construction activities. Operates equipment such as asphalt distributors, dump trucks, backhoes, heavy front end loaders, motor graders, and a variety of hand and power tools to complete assigned projects.Performs maintenance and repairs to streets, alleys, road shoulders, medians, curbs, and sidewalks. Conducts routine equipment inspections, services equipment, and performs minor repairs and adjustments to ensure safe and efficient operation.May work independently or lead a street maintenance crew in the absence of the supervisor, coordinating daily work assignments and ensuring projects are completed safely and efficiently.Operates heavy and light equipment during snow and ice removal operations and responds to emergency situations as needed, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and other nontraditional work hours.Maintains accurate documentation, including daily logs, equipment checklists, and pre trip inspection reports. Performs other related duties and supports division operations as assigned.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and two to three years of related experience in roadway maintenance, heavy equipment operation, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain one within twelve (12) months of employment. A Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement may also be required within twelve (12) months of employment.
