PART-TIME MACHINE OPERATOR

Job Description

This part-time Machine Operator role involves operating and supporting a variety of metal fabrication and production equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will load and unload machines, handle materials, and use hand and power tools while working safely around furnaces, heat treating equipment, and heavy machinery. The position offers structured training, cross-training across multiple areas, and a clear pathway for advancement into higher-level machine operator roles.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of production equipment, including drill presses, shear presses, punch presses, straightening presses, torches, saws, and related machinery.
• Load and unload machines with raw materials and finished products in a safe and efficient manner.
• Handle materials throughout the production process, including using overhead cranes, forklifts, and CombiLift equipment to move products.
• Monitor machines during operation to ensure products move correctly through each stage of the process and meet quality expectations.
• Use hand and power tools to support production, maintenance, and general shop activities as required.
• Clean quench tanks and maintain a clean, organized work area to support safe and efficient operations.

Essential Skills

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to stand for 8 hours or more during a shift.
• Ability to follow directions accurately and consistently.
• Willingness and physical ability to work around furnaces, heat treating machines, heavy CNC machinery, forklifts, and cranes.

Work Environment

The role is part-time, with opportunities to work 4–6 hour shifts between second and third shifts, totaling approximately 20–30 hours per week. Example shift options include 4:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m.–2:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. The environment includes daily production meetings involving all levels of staff, fostering communication and alignment. The Part-time roles have the potential to transition to full-time permanent positions, at which point employees become fully eligible for the complete benefits package.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Crystal Lake, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
