Position: Maintenance Foreman This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating maintenance personnel while ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of facility maintenance activities within a correctional environment. Responsibilities Oversee the maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance of buildings, equipment, and infrastructure; assign and inspect work; ensure compliance with safety standards and departmental policies; maintain work orders and records; and coordinate projects with institutional staff to support daily operations. Supervise and coordinate maintenance personnel in a structured and secure environment. Qualifications Four years of experience or training in building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; or Completion of a two‑year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; or Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination thereof plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance. Detailed Job Duties Engages in and/or supervises skilled inmate craftsmen in performing the following. Electrical – repair and installation of receptacles, transformer banks, multibreakers, electrical wiring, fans, dishwashing and cooking equipment, security lights, generators, power lines, guide wires, and any other electrical work. Plumbing – installation of commercial appliances and plumbing fixtures, water and gas lines, adjustments of gas regulators, and related appliances and fixtures. Carpentry – repairing roofs, hanging doors, installing floor tiles, sheetrock, constructing shelves, guard rails, small buildings, and the laying of concrete blocks and bricks. Welding – maintenance and repair of water lines, calderas, gates, fences, gas lines (includes heavy equipment, and pressure boilers with assistance of outside vendors). Masonry – laying of brick, terra cotta, ceramic and hollow tile, and other building blocks. Refrigeration – maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning systems, refrigerators, several large walk‑in coolers, ice makers and exhaust fans. Work Environment Employee will work with adult male inmates of all custody levels – minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody. Appointment Type: Probation, or Promotion of a permanent, classified Louisiana State employee. Note regarding the advertised pay range: The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and NOT the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
