Prepare and record monthly fixed and variable journal entries as part of the month-end close. Analyze general ledger accounts and monthly financial statements for accuracy. Research variances and prepare correcting journal entries when necessary. Prepare monthly financial statements and monitor automated reporting processes to ensure jobs are completed accurately. Troubleshoot accounting and reporting issues within automated workflows. Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, investment, petty cash, and credit card accounts. Review accounts payable activity, including invoice coding, vendor setup, W-9 documentation, and disbursement authorization. Prepare annual 1099 reporting. Monitor cash flow and account balances to ensure sufficient funds are available for operating expenses. Monitor bank activity, including ACH and wire deposits, and record transactions appropriately. Review and post daily check and cash deposits. Monitor accounting controls and procedures for compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiency. Support annual financial audits by preparing schedules, statements, spreadsheets, and supporting documentation. Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses as requested. Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives. Grant & Program Accounting Manage post-award grant accounting processes by reviewing grant and contract agreements and identifying financial reporting and compliance requirements. Maintain grant reporting calendars and monitor deadlines. Monitor grant budgets and spending activity. Process expenditure requests and reimbursement submissions for applicable funding programs. Monitor grant-funded expenses and identify potential budget issues. Prepare billing invoices and supporting documentation for reimbursement-based grants. Record accounts receivable associated with reimbursement grants and monitor collections. Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation for grant expenditures. Work with program and project teams to answer financial questions and explain financial reports. Help educate internal stakeholders on how to interpret and understand financial statements and reports. Accounting + Automation One of the most unique aspects of this position is the organization's high level of accounting automation. The team produces a large volume of financial reporting across numerous entities and programs, making automated workflows an important part of the accounting function. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working at the intersection of accounting and technology and may have experience with: VBA / Excel automation Power Apps C++ Other programming or scripting languages Automated reporting processes Data validation and reconciliation Troubleshooting automated accounting workflows Identifying mismatched data or columns within automated processes Understanding how changes to source data can impact downstream reporting You do not need to be a software developer. The organization is looking for an accountant who is technically curious and can understand enough code and system logic to identify where an issue may be occurring and help determine how to resolve it. If you are a CPA who also enjoys coding, automation, Excel, and making accounting processes more efficient, this could be an especially strong fit. What We're Looking For Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Active CPA license. At least 3 years of relevant accounting experience. Strong understanding of general accounting principles and GAAP. Hands-on experience with journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting. Intermediate-level experience with VBA or another programming language. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to troubleshoot issues and investigate discrepancies independently. Ability to identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency. Preferred Public accounting or nonprofit accounting experience. Experience with foundation, government, or grant accounting. Experience working with multiple entities, funds, programs, or segments. Experience with MIP Fund Accounting. Experience with Power Apps or similar automation tools. Experience working with highly automated accounting/reporting environments. Advanced Excel, VBA, or data-analysis capabilities. Candidates coming from public accounting are welcome, provided they have meaningful hands-on accounting experience beyond audit work.
