Job Title: Senior Quality Engineering Technician Job Description

The Senior Quality Engineering Technician serves as a key technical resource for complex nonconformance investigations, product quality concerns, and manufacturing quality issues in a regulated production environment. This role independently leads investigations, drives root cause and corrective action activities, coordinates large and complex sorting efforts, mentors other technicians, and collaborates closely with Quality Engineering and Manufacturing teams to reduce recurring defects and continuously improve quality processes and systems.

• Lead complex investigations involving nonconforming components, assemblies, and finished devices, ensuring thorough analysis and clear documentation of findings.
• Independently evaluate ambiguous or complex quality concerns by using engineering drawings, specifications, manufacturing procedures, quality records, product history, and technical inspection methods.
• Author, review, and complete complex defect and nonconforming material reports (DMRs / NMRs), rework logs (RLs), and related quality documentation in accordance with established procedures.
• Determine the appropriate quality documentation path for device, assembly, in-process, and supplier-related defects to ensure accurate tracking and resolution.
• Lead root cause investigations by gathering evidence, evaluating failure modes, identifying contributing factors, and recommending effective corrective actions.
• Partner with Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Supplier Quality, Purchasing, and Operations to resolve recurring or high-impact quality issues and improve processes.
• Lead and coordinate product or material sorting activities, including defining inspection criteria, determining resource needs, training participants, and summarizing results.
• Serve as a technical quality resource for Manufacturing, Quality Control, Receiving Inspection, Final Inspection, Packaging, Purchasing, and Engineering teams.
• Provide clear and definitive interpretations of established acceptance criteria and escalate issues that require engineering judgment or formal disposition authority.
• Identify trends in quality failures and recommend improvements to inspection methods, manufacturing processes, procedures, or employee training programs.
• Support corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities by collecting data, conducting investigations, verifying implementation of actions, and monitoring results for effectiveness.
• Mentor and train Quality Engineering Technicians and other employees on inspection techniques, nonconformance documentation, investigation methods, and quality system requirements.
• Review the work of less experienced technicians for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable procedures and standards when requested.
• Lead quality-related troubleshooting efforts with Manufacturing Technicians and production personnel to quickly resolve issues impacting product quality.
• Use Epicor and other quality or manufacturing systems to conduct advanced product history and traceability investigations.
• Support the development or revision of inspection instructions, workmanship standards, investigation tools, and quality procedures to enhance consistency and effectiveness.
• Represent the technician group in cross-functional quality discussions and communicate investigation findings and recommendations to appropriate stakeholders.
• Perform other quality-related duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.

• Typically five or more years of experience in quality inspection, quality engineering support, medical device manufacturing, or a related regulated manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience independently leading nonconformance investigations and root cause analysis activities.
• Advanced knowledge of nonconformance processes, inspection methods, and quality system requirements in a regulated manufacturing setting.
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, assembly procedures, workmanship standards, and acceptance criteria.
• Advanced proficiency with measuring and inspection equipment used in production and quality control environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead root cause investigations and support the implementation of effective corrective actions.
• Ability to manage complex assignments with minimal direction while maintaining high levels of accuracy and compliance.
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise, and complete quality records.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
• Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to technicians and other employees.
• Ability to coordinate cross-functional activities and communicate findings to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Advanced experience using ERP, manufacturing, document control, and electronic quality systems, including Epicor or similar platforms.

• Associate degree in quality, manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related technical field is preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experience may be considered in place of a formal degree.
• Experience working within a medical device or similarly regulated manufacturing environment is highly beneficial.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to systematically identify and resolve complex quality issues.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and build collaborative relationships across departments.
• Attention to detail and a structured approach to problem solving, documentation, and process improvement.

This position operates in a regulated manufacturing and quality environment that focuses on medical devices or similar products. The role follows normal first-shift hours, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will work closely with manufacturing, quality control, inspection, packaging, purchasing, and engineering teams, using ERP systems such as Epicor, electronic quality systems, document control tools, and a range of measuring and inspection equipment. The environment emphasizes adherence to documented procedures, workmanship standards, and quality system requirements, with a strong focus on product traceability, nonconformance management, and continuous improvement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
