Position Summary The Department of German and Italian at Smith College invites applications for a 3‑year renewable, benefits‑eligible Lecturer position in German Studies, beginning July 1, 2026. This non‑tenure track, teaching‑focused faculty role includes access to research funds and a track to promotion to Senior Lecturer. Location Northampton, MA Responsibilities Teach five courses per year at all levels of the curriculum, in German and in English. Actively contribute to department life and curricular development. Engage creatively in the department’s transnational approach and expand beyond canonical study of German culture. Qualifications Fluent in German and English. Proven record of excellence in teaching German at the undergraduate level. Ph.D. or ABD status in German at time of appointment. Interest in language acquisition essential; experience in curricular design preferred. Candidates from groups underrepresented in German Studies are strongly encouraged to apply. Compensation & Benefits Starting pay range: $75,800–$77,800. A competitive benefits package is also offered. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications.
