Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This position involves providing high-quality care in a fast-paced environment with a focus on maternal and neonatal health.

Location: Puyallup, WA

Type: Level III Trauma Center

Capacity: 375 Licensed Beds

Unit Information:

• 9 Labor, Delivery, Recovery (LDR) Beds
• 2 OB Operating Room (OR) beds
• 2 OB Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) beds
• 11 Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds
• 4 Pediatric beds
• 20 Mother/Baby unit beds
• 18 bed START unit for Perinatal Addiction
• 3 OB Emergency Department (ED) beds (20 weeks gestation and above)

Patient Demographics and Common Conditions:

• Level II Perinatal Center patients 32 weeks gestation and above
• Conditions include hypertension, magnesium administration, medication management for substance use disorders, and care for low-risk patients needing intermittent monitoring.
• Delivery rates are approximately 175-200 per month.

Patient Ratios:

• 1:1 ratio for active labor cases
• 1:2 ratio for non-active laboring patients

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience required
• Current BLS and NRP certifications are mandatory
• Fetal monitoring certification (AWHONN or equivalent) is required

Key Skills:

• Strong experience in L&D including cervical exams, contrived antepartum and labor care, amnio infusion, administering epidurals, and fetal monitoring.
• Experience with postpartum care for mothers and stable infants.
• Proficiency in couplet care once mothers and babies are stable.
• Familiarity with HUGS Security system and Pyxis medication dispensing system.

Department Support:

Support staff includes NICU attending for infants 34 weeks or less, respiratory therapy available 24/7 for high-risk deliveries, and a hospitalist team available around the clock.

Technology and Equipment:

• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): EPIC Stork, GE Centricity
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Orientation and Training:

• Comprehensive orientation program, including unit competency exams and annual core competencies (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA).

Scheduling Information:

• Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday expectations: One major holiday and one minor holiday per year
• Shift times: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700
• Schedules are created in 3-week increments
