About the Position: This is a Term position Not To Exceed 2 years with the Defense Health Agency at the Evans Army Community Hospital located at Fort Carson, Colorado.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

Help

• Provide comprehensive gynecologic care, to include but not limited to, well women exams, contraceptive care, family planning, and office procedures to include but not limited to colposcopy, biopsies, and contraceptive placement.
• Evaluate both functional and dysfunctional problems related to the female to include pain, urological complaints, bleeding abnormalities, hormonal dysfunction and infections.
• Complete obstetrical evaluations, provide plan of care, and hospital admission; provide ongoing assessment of maternal and fetal status, labor progress, and interventions; and order and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic studies.
• Utilize and perform screening and diagnostic modalities, to include but not limited to, first and third trimester obstetrical ultrasounds and colposcopy for OB/GYN concerns as well as provide primary preventive care and education for women.
• Provide counseling to patients regarding diagnosis, disease processes, diagnostic testing, and plan of care; serve as a resource consultant regarding the latest advances in midwifery practice; and participate in patient care rounds and conferences.
• Participate in the development of peer audit processes, involving a systematic review of inpatient and outpatient obstetric and gynecologic records, to ensure the standard of care is met.

• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
• This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, and/or holidays).

• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Midwife):

Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program in Midwifery is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

Specialty Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse in the specialty of Midwifery or related specialty from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27,2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes providing gynecological or obstetrical care; developing patient care plans; and educating patients or staff .This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

• This is a TERM position. It is time-limited and may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met.
• A Term Appointment does not offer career or career-conditional status in the competitive service.
• Permanent employees of another agency may be required to take a 3 day break in service.
• Permanent federal employees are not guaranteed return back to their permanent position prior to being placed in the time-limited position.
• This is an obligated Position in which an employee has return rights. Upon the employee's return, incumbent may be required to vacate this position.This position is a TERM position NTE 2 years.
