Cold Heading Machine Operator

Basic Purpose and Objective Under general supervision and according to established policy and procedures, sets up various sizes and types of cold forming machines automatically shaping parts to blueprint specifications and set‑up charts. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Tear down, set up and operate multiple product lines to specified tolerances of hot or cold headers or trimmers to produce metal parts. Conduct first run inspection and periodic quality checks. Perform routine maintenance on equipment including cleaning, lubricating, adding fluids, checking air pressure and oil levels. Install cold heading tooling in machines. Set up and install various support equipment. Compute feed length and progression to produce quality parts. Establish processing parameters and set monitoring equipment to ensure processing parameters are maintained to produce quality parts. Read measuring equipment such as shadowgraphs, micrometers, calipers, and related equipment. Perform minor die repairs and modifications to include sharpening and adjustments to maintain integrity of parts. Run wire through machine. Move stock to and from machine. Move containers of finished parts. Lifting to 35 lbs. Skills And Formal Training Requirements/Experience 5+ years of experience as a header man. Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings. Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers. Read blueprint or job order for product specification such as dimensions, tolerance, number, or parts to be checked.
