Rate of Pay: $50.00 per hour, plus per diem for those who qualify

DESCRIPTION

Hutco, Inc. is currently seeking experienced Pipe Welders for shipbuilding work in Newport News, Virginia.

Qualified candidates must have a minimum of five years of documented commercial or naval pipe welding experience . This position requires multi-pass, all-position pipe welding using SMAW and GTAW processes on carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel piping systems.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

• Minimum 5 years of documented commercial or naval experience as a Pipe Welder .
• Perform multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using SMAW and GTAW.
• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel pipe.
• Perform insert welding and fusion work as required.
• Perform mirror welding using SMAW and GTAW processes.
• Use oxygen/propane heating torches.
• Work in physically demanding shipboard environments, including ladders, staging, and sub-assemblies.
• Understand and follow applicable OSHA shipbuilding safety requirements.
• Use fillet gauges, butt gauges, and six-inch scales accurately.

WELDING QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must be qualified to weld in all positions using SMAW and GTAW processes.

Required experience includes:

• Thin-wall socket welding below .187 wall thickness.
• Multi-pass pipe welding.
• Carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel pipe welding.
• Mirror welding.

Candidates must successfully complete required qualification testing before assignment.

Testing may include:

• Welder Vision Test
• Visual Inspection of Welds Level I
• Pre-Heat and Interpass requirements
• Fire Watch CBT
• Torch Safety Test
• Required welding qualification tests administered by the Newport News Welding School

Candidates must be prepared to pass all required welding qualifications prior to starting work.

PHYSICAL / WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work in high-temperature and high-humidity environments.
• Perform physically demanding work in shipboard and industrial settings.
• Climb ladders and staging.
• Work in tight or restricted areas.
• Comply with all required PPE and safety procedures.
