Hourly Range: $33.94 USD to $35.04 USD Location YMCA Early Childhood Impact - Emeryville 1275 61st St, Emeryville, CA 94608, USA Under the direction of the Success Manager, the Specialist contributes to the development and implementation of the on‑the‑job training and teacher preparation program including providing support services such as coordinating childcare, tutoring, information and referral and other supports for participants. These functions will be carried out in keeping with the goals and mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. The Early Educator Apprenticeship Program addresses the shortage of qualified workers in Head Start. Program participants are recruited from among the ranks of Head Start parents and community members offering workers an on‑ramp to a career ladder that articulates to the K-12 education system. Apprentices earn college credits and/or degrees that qualify them for advancement in the YMCA Early Childhood Impact program. The Success Specialist provides mentoring and support to the Head Start Apprentices and employees. Qualifications BA/BS degree in social sciences or liberal arts, child development and/or early childhood education preferred. 1 year of combined experience in child development, professional development, academic guidance, mentoring, and program design/implementation preferred. Experience working with 2- and 4-year colleges/universities preferred. Experience serving dual language and immigrant populations, non‑traditional college students, first‑generation college students, and low‑income workers is preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is highly preferred to effectively support apprentices, families, and community partners. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Valid California Driver's License, proof of auto insurance, and annual DMV check required. Criminal record clearance and health requirements that include physical exam, TB, and immunizations. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and other computer programs necessary to perform the duties of the job. Essential Functions Deliver high quality programming that achieves the educational, administrative and service delivery goals. Support apprenticeship program enrollment and participant progress. Work with Center Directors to consistently assess apprentice progress in work assignments. Document student academic information. Establish rapport with apprentices and serve as a mentor, encouraging academic success and balancing life commitments, providing soft skills training. Motivate apprentices toward self‑sufficiency by maintaining education and training, upgrading skills, developing self‑confidence, and positive self‑image. Meet regularly with apprentices’ instructors, school counselors, and others as needed for support. Participate in department and other YMCA meetings. Coordinate regular site visits and coaching services, track weekly performance. Contribute to grant‑funded initiatives (e.g., proposals, reports, budgets, tracking invoices). Ensure appropriate supplies are in stock. Coordinate and provide support services (childcare, tutoring, transportation) for evening and weekend classes and events. Availability for evenings and weekends during apprenticeship sessions (2:30‑10 PM Tuesday‑Friday; 8 AM‑4 PM Saturday; flexibility during school breaks). Other duties and special projects as assigned. Work Environment and Physical Demands Strength, agility, and mobility to supervise program activities in indoor and outdoor locations. Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
