Security/Hall Monitor

Position: Security/Hall Monitor (2-4 Hours Positions) (7:15 AM - 11:15 AM and 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM)

Reports To: Building Principal Director of Safety Services, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent required.

2. Post high school training or degree preferred, especially as eligible for substitute teacher license.

3. Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-03 of the Ohio Administrative Code.

4. Excellent communication skills, to include parent communication as concerns arise.

5. Demonstrated skills in use of technology for productivity and professional communication.

6. Prior experience working with and mentoring young adults.

7. Demonstrated success working with students from varied backgrounds including students with behavior problems.

8. CPI Trained and physical ability to perform such interventions.

9. Understanding of and experience with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports preferred.

10. Physical ability to walk several miles per day and run to intervene in crises as needed.

11. Ability to assist with run, hide, fight drills and scenarios.

12. Ability to maintain confidential information.

13. Willingness to participate in further training.

14. Alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board of Education may find appropriate.

General Description:

Maintain order in and outside of school building, promoting a sense of safety and security for all.

Essential Functions:

1. Maintains visibility in and outside the school building.

2. Communicates behavioral expectations to students in a positive way.

3. Maintains acceptable behavior in hallways, cafeteria, parking lots and other areas as directed by the

principal.

4. Supports and promotes school rules and discipline procedures.

5. Reacts appropriately to emergencies and recognizes potential problems, conflicts and other risks among students.

6. Checks student passes.

7. Reports fighting, loitering, vandalism and other violations to the building administration.

8. Special attention needs to be paid to parking lots, crosswalks, and traffic control before and after dismissal

9. Makes necessary inspections for alcohol, drugs, weapons and related paraphernalia.

10. Restrains students to avoid unsafe situations.

11. Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e. website, email, voicemail, etc.) daily.

12. Supervises students during in school reassignment as needed.

13. Performs other tasks as directed by the building principal or designee.

14. Uses technology to track data on tardies, truancy and behavior to help inform supervision and security decisions.

15. Assists building administration and the Director of Safety Services in planning and conducting security trainings for staff and students.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.

2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

3. Responsible for clocking in and out each day.

4. Reports absence into online reporting system

5. Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (example: PO 4122.0 1 and PO 4170)

6. Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.

7. Conducts other duties as assigned by the building principal.

Additional Working Conditions:

1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.

2. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.

3. Interaction among unruly children.

4. Regular requirements to reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, stoop and kneel.

5. Occasional lifting of 15-30 pounds.

6. Lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and materials.

7. Other duties as assigned which relate to the smooth operation of the lunchroom and hallways by the

building principal and/or designee.
