We are a construction and landscaping supply business in Kansas City, Kansas. We are looking for a reliable, service-minded individual for a year-round, full-time position. We do not use high-pressure sales tactics. Your primary focus will be providing accurate product information, building relationships with repeating customers, and managing daily counter operations. Our business is highly seasonal, and the workload and schedule shift drastically depending on the time of year.
- Peak Season (Mid-March to Mid-December): Monday through Saturday. Sundays off. Expect a fast-paced, demanding environment. Shifts are 9+ hours. Saturdays are mandatory. Overtime is required.
- PTO Blackout Dates: Because the majority of our revenue occurs between April and October, we enforce strict PTO blackout dates around major holidays to ensure proper staffing. Employees are expected to be available to work during these windows regardless of advance requests (exceptions based on tenure are rare). Blackout windows include:
- Memorial Day Weekend: The Friday before and the Tuesday after.
- Independence Day: The days immediately before and after July 4th.
- Labor Day Weekend: The Friday before.
- Winter Season (Mid-December to Mid-March): Business slows down significantly. To manage hours while keeping you close to a 40-hour work week, we typically assign a scheduled day off during the week. Work during this time consists of facility maintenance, inventory, and special projects.
- Daily Operations: We are open M-F (7:30 AM 5:30 PM) and Saturday (9:00 AM 3:00 PM). Shift times vary between opening (7:30 AM 5:00 PM) and closing (8:00 AM 5:30 PM). Some days require working the full 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM shift.
- Breaks and Lunches: Formal rest breaks are not provided. You will receive a 30-minute lunch, but the timing is flexible and depends entirely on customer volume. On exceptionally busy days, you may be required to work through lunch (this time will be paid).
- Work Environment: The majority of our product is located outdoors or in an unconditioned warehouse. You will spend a lot of time at a desk but you will also be on your feet, walking the yard, and assisting customers outside regardless of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, dust, and wind). The company provides shirts, pants, boots, and a hoodie, but you must wear attire you do not mind getting dirty or damaged.
- Greet customers immediately as they arrive and prioritize counter transactions and phone calls above all other tasks.
- Walk customers directly to the product in the yard to assist them and close transactions.
- Provide consultative support, project estimates, and technical advice. You will answer the same product questions frequently.
- Operate our Point of Sale (POS) system, accurately tag customer orders, and use Google Calendar to coordinate delivery schedules.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-service mindset.
- Ability to multitask, handle a high-volume counter, and maintain accurate short-term recall in a hectic environment.
- Proficient with digital tools (POS software and Google Calendar).
- Stamina to handle long shifts and outdoor elements during peak season.

- Starting Wage: $22.00/hr + peak-season overtime.

- Teladoc Service: House of Rocks facilitates access to U.S. board-certified adult and pediatric doctors through Teladoc Health, Inc. This service enables enrolled employees and their families to engage in on-demand consultations via phone or video to discuss healthcare concerns, receive diagnoses, or obtain prescriptions without an in-person visit. House of Rocks covers up to 3 visits per year.
- Uniforms: Company-provided shirts, pants, and boots.
- First Year Hires: Accrual begins after 60 days of continuous employment at a rate of 1/2 day (4 hours) per month. Prorated schedules apply for mid-year hires.
- 1 Year of Service: 1 week (40 hours) of planned PTO.
- 2 Years of Service: 2 weeks (80 hours) of planned PTO.
- 5+ Years of Service: 3 weeks (120 hours) of planned PTO.
- Rollover & Payout: Up to 5 days of unused PTO can roll over to the next anniversary year (capped at 120 hours total at any time). Unused PTO that does not roll over is paid out on your weekly paycheck after your anniversary date. Unused PTO is paid out upon separation if leaving the company in good standing.

Physical Requirements
This position involves frequent walking to observe various areas of the business. Ability to quickly walk from location to location throughout the yard is essential. Day to day duties will involve standing or sitting for extended periods and may involve infrequent lifting of up to 25 lbs. Ability to stand and walk for several hours per day. Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures and humidity levels.
