Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner

Job Title Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Reports To EHM APP Regional Managers Appointment Full time Exempt/Non-exempt Exempt Compensation 200k-250k annually Job Summary The float PA/NP is prepared to deliver primary health care, including but not limited to recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries in the Emergency Department and inpatient settings (Hospital Medicine, ICU), with emphasis on early detection and treatment of disease and prevention. Essential Functions Flexible and ready to travel to various RWJBarnabas locations as needed. Proficient in Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Intensive Care Unit. Work clinical shifts in EM, HM, ICU, meeting patient flow demands. Maintain medical staff membership, certifications, licenses, and hospital privileges. Obtain and record patient history, perform physical examinations, complete medical screening exams. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic studies and order laboratory or radiological tests as appropriate. Establish diagnostic decision‑making, initiate treatment plans, including medications and therapeutic modalities. Coordinate patient care with the healthcare team, initiate consults, and provide comprehensive management. Instruct and counsel patients on mental and physical health, referring to specialists or resources as needed. Perform state‑law‑permitted procedures under supervising physician direction. Participate in department staff meetings and risk‑management education. Thoroughly and timely complete chart documentation. Complete required courses (HIPAA, EMTALA, CME/CEU). Work extended hours: weekdays, overnights, weekends, holidays. Knowledge & Skills Broad medical knowledge in emergency and hospital medicine. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective teamwork with ED, HM, ICU and hospital staff. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills. Adherence to legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards. Scheduling flexibility and willingness to respond to urgent needs. Education & Work Experience Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in EM, HM, and/or ICU; proficiency in all areas preferred. Certification on applicable professional boards (NCCPA, ANCC, etc.). Licenses to practice in the applicable State. Active membership in professional or state organizations encouraged. Scheduling & Assignment Guidelines The float APP will receive monthly assignments with at least 6 weeks’ notice. Prior to the first clinical shift at a new site, a minimum of one orientation shift will be scheduled. Scheduling preference is given to SST clinicians. Float clinicians will provide: One to two weekends per month (Friday, Saturday, or Saturday, Sunday), unless otherwise agreed. A fair share of nights (up to half of the monthly schedule), unless otherwise agreed. Availability for one summer holiday (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day) and one winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year). #J-18808-Ljbffr New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner Association
