This position is responsible for leading therapeutic interventions that support students' emotional, behavioral, and social development, ensuring they can thrive academically and personally. The role involves collaborating closely with school staff, families, and community resources to create individualized treatment plans that address each student's unique needs. As a leader, the therapist will also mentor and guide other therapists and support staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and evidence-based practice. Ultimately, this position aims to enhance the overall well-being and academic success of students by integrating therapeutic expertise within the school environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related mental health field.
- Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or equivalent in the state of practice.
- Minimum of three years of clinical experience providing therapy to children and adolescents, preferably in a school or community setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma-informed care.
- Strong understanding of child development, educational systems, and mental health regulations applicable to school settings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a school-based mental health program.
- Certification in specialized therapeutic approaches such as Play Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
- Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
- Bilingual abilities or experience working with diverse cultural and socioeconomic student populations.
- Training in crisis intervention techniques and de-escalation strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual and group therapy sessions tailored to students' mental health needs within the school setting.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans in collaboration with educators, families, and healthcare providers.
- Provide crisis intervention and support during acute behavioral or emotional episodes.
- Lead and mentor a team of school-based therapists and support staff, promoting professional development and adherence to best practices.
- Collaborate with school administrators and multidisciplinary teams to integrate mental health services into the educational framework.
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all therapeutic services and progress notes in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Facilitate training sessions and workshops for school personnel to increase awareness and understanding of student mental health issues.
- Advocate for student needs within the school system and connect families with external community resources as necessary.
Skills:
The Lead School Based Therapist utilizes strong clinical assessment and therapeutic skills daily to evaluate and address students' mental health needs effectively. Leadership and communication skills are essential for mentoring team members and collaborating with school personnel and families to ensure cohesive care. Organizational skills are critical for managing caseloads, maintaining detailed documentation, and coordinating services across multiple stakeholders. Cultural competence and empathy enable the therapist to build trust and rapport with students from diverse backgrounds, enhancing treatment outcomes. Additionally, problem-solving and crisis management skills are frequently applied to respond promptly and appropriately to urgent behavioral or emotional situations within the school environment.
