About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psych Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatric Unit - Pediatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7P-7A Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required. Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred. License: Current state license required. Certifications: BLS required. MOAB obtained on site during orientation. Must-Have: - De-escalation experience - Experience with physical restraints - Comfortability to run groups - Documentation skills Description: As soon as possible start is needed. Interviews will be conducted, followed by manager approval. The unit will provide traditional medical and psychiatric care along with specialized therapies. Patient types include admissions from emergency departments. Patients will be medically cleared before admission. There are no typical lines, drains, tubes, etc. Patients can be involuntary or voluntary admissions. Common diagnoses for pediatric patients include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. Adult patients commonly exhibit schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, as well as eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. Forensic patients or inmates are not present in this facility. Seclusion rooms are used when necessary. There may be occasional substance use disorder or detoxing patients. Patient ratios are 1 nurse to 5-6 during the day shift and 1 to 13 during the night shift, with additional resource support. Support on the unit includes a nurse supervisor available during evenings and weekends and a nurse manager available during the day. All staff respond to patient escalations. Charting is done using a specific electronic record system. Floating between units is expected. Travelers must be comfortable working with both pediatric and adult populations. Weekend rotations are required. Travelers are expected to work holidays. Holiday schedules will be done in rotation. Approval for time off is allowed for up to 7 days. The scheduling involves modified self-scheduling, where travelers sign up for preferred shifts, subject to manager approval. Professional scrub colors are required. Travelers should be prepared for heavy winter conditions. In case of an escalation, a code leader is designated to assign roles while verbally de-escalating the patient. Travelers may function as the code leader and are encouraged to seek additional practice with de-escalation techniques. Scenario-based training will be available biweekly if needed.
