Land Stewardship Manager
$29 - $35 per hourSiglo Group
August 2026 | Open until filled | Austin-based. Siglo Group is an ecological planning, design, and restoration firm based in Austin, TX, with an office in Salt Lake City, UT. Since 2006 we have helped clients integrate ecology and conservation into how land and water are planned, designed, and managed, at scales ranging from millions of acres to a single urban greenway. Our core values: instill a sense of place, drive stewardship, enhance ecosystem services, and address climate change. We are growing our on-the-ground restoration practice, and this role is central to that. Role Description We are hiring a full-time Land Stewardship Manager to lead our field restoration crew of about four. This is a field-forward, working crew lead role, roughly 75% field and 25% office. A majority of the field work happens on the Barton Creek Greenbelt, one of the most loved and most heavily used natural areas in Austin. The balance is equivalent restoration work at other Central Texas sites. You direct the crew and work alongside them: trail work, invasive species removal, native plantings, and restoration on the ground. Trail work and mechanical invasive species management are the largest components, followed by meadow seeding and woodland restoration. You also lead the volunteer events that are central to how we do this work. Like any growing company, this position will evolve based on your strengths and the work in front of us. We expect the right person to start strong on field execution, crew leadership, and volunteer coordination, and to grow from there. We will invest in that growth. What You’ll Do Lead, train, and work alongside a field crew of about four. You plan the work, set standards, develop the crew’s field skills, keep them safe, and get quality work done on the ground. Lead trail work and invasive species removal on the Barton Creek Greenbelt and other natural areas. Organize and run volunteer events. Recruiting is handled for you. You plan the day, lead large groups safely and productively, and make the experience a good one for volunteers and for the land. Train volunteers in field techniques and safety. Develop the crew’s ability to lead volunteer events independently. Execute and direct restoration work: native plant establishment, seeding and plantings, erosion and soil stabilization, and riparian restoration. Operate and maintain field equipment, from hand and power tools through trucks, trailers, chainsaws, and tractor implements. Coordinate field logistics: scheduling, materials, equipment staging, and site readiness. Contribute to planning, site assessment, construction observation, and report writing, concentrated in the summer months. Report from the field. Translate what you see on the ground into clear, useful updates for our team, our clients, and our land-management partners Candidate Profile At least two years of hands-on field experience doing trail work and invasive species work, or closely equivalent restoration and land-management fieldwork. At least one year supervising a crew doing equivalent field work, responsible for their safety, quality, and output. A degree in ecology, conservation, biology, environmental studies, restoration, land management, or forestry, or four years of directly relevant field experience. Proven experience leading volunteers in the field. You have been responsible for keeping large groups safe, oriented, and productive. A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Familiarity with Central Texas plant communities, and the ability to identify both high-value native species and invasive species. A genuine commitment to ecological restoration, conservation, and land stewardship. The maturity and reliability to lead a crew and represent Siglo well on public land, on client sites, and in front of the public. Comfort with a schedule that includes regular Saturday volunteer events (see Schedule below). Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job: workdays outdoors in Central Texas heat, work on uneven and steep terrain and in dense brush, repeated lifting and carrying of 50 lbs and occasionally more over rough ground, and sustained use of hand and power tools. Reasonable accommodation may be available. Additional Characteristics None of these are required. We expect the right person to bring some and develop the rest with us. Chainsaw experience and saw safety training. Experience conducting woodland restoration. Experience working on public parkland. Experience towing a gooseneck trailer and operating trucks, tractors, and other heavy field equipment. Experience with native seed drills, soil rippers, and restoration seeding and planting equipment. Restoration, arborist, wetland, and/or herbicide certifications. Experience with construction observation and plan reading, or contributing to restoration prescriptions, site assessments, or management plans. Familiarity with GIS, field-data apps, or restoration-tracking platforms. Schedule, Site Conditions & Safety Full-time, primarily field-based work across Central Texas. Volunteer events run about two days a week, typically Friday and Saturday, through the September to May field season. Your standing commitment is at least three Saturdays a month through the fall. Dates are set in advance, not week to week, so you can plan your life. When you work on a Saturday, we flex the same workweek, so your scheduled hours stay at 40. Major crew work runs September through May. Summer shifts to planning, site assessment, construction observation, report writing, and preparation for the next season. Hours stay full-time year-round. Greenbelt work means working among the public: trail users, dogs on and off leash, and cyclists, often at close quarters. Steep limestone, loose footing, and creek crossings are routine. Weather stops work. You make the call on heat and rain-event stop-work protocols. Siglo provides PPE, safety training, and workers’ compensation coverage. Compensation and Benefits $29 to $35 per hour, commensurate with experience, credentials, and equipment proficiency. Hourly, non-exempt, with overtime eligibility. Roughly $60,000 to $73,000 annualized at full time. Comprehensive benefits package includes health insurance, retirement benefits, 12 days paid time off annually, paid holidays and sick days, annual bonuses, and more.
