Level I - II Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician

Job Overview: We are seeking an energetic and motivated Level I-II Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician to join our dynamic team. This paid position offers a fantastic opportunity to develop foundational skills in nondestructive testing, quality control, and inspection processes. As a NDT technician, you will receive hands-on experience in NDT techniques, data collection, and quality assurance protocols while supporting our mission. R&A will provide the candidate with On-the-Job Training (OJT). Previous NDT experience is ideal.

The work will entail completing various non-destructive testing methods under the supervision of a Senior Level II or Level III specialists at different utility companies on power plant components and turbine rotors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of certified NDE/NDT technicians, the NDT technician will provide support by setting up and utilizing NDT equipment, performing NDE/NDT procedures, and assisting with recording inspection results and other related operations.

Perform NDT on various mechanical components and turbine parts.

  • Must be able to read and interpret testing specifications and procedures.

Must be able to record and document test results.

  • Perform other job-related tasks assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Understanding of NDT methods and principals.
  • Basic computer knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge with an interest in nondestructive testing techniques
  • Familiarity with hand tools, calipers, micrometers, and schematics preferred but not required training will be provided.
  • Strong attention to detail with good analysis skills for data collection and inspection documentation.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude toward learning new skills.
  • U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident and valid SSN.
  • Driver’s License and the ability to pass a controlled substance screening test and background check.
  • Work shifts up to 12 hours/day and 7 days/week and travel for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Passport.
  • Have dependable Transportation to get to Work.
  • OSHA 30 hour safety is desired but training will be provided later.
  • Willing to Learn and Follow Instructions.

Qualifications:

  • Assist NDE/NDT technicians in conducting tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using NDT inspection methods.
  • Must be flexible and able to respond to work assignments with minimal notice.
  • Strong work ethic and teamwork.
  • Safety and quality awareness.
  • Adaptable to changing schedules.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures.

Physical Activity/Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Work in confined spaces, climb stairs/ladders kneel, jump, work while lying on stomach/back, crawl, stand, balance, stoop, squat, reach and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands.
  • Twist, sit with back supported, head forward/flexed, head tilted/rotated.
  • Work with arms extended below the waist, unsupported, elbows flexed, wrist supported and unsupported.
  • Work off of scaffolding between 6-20 feet above ground.
  • Differentiate between colors.
  • Lift and carry objects weighing 25-50 pounds.
  • Wear PPE for body, head, ears, hands, vision and foot safety.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
  • Standing and walking.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Exceptional safety and quality awareness.
  • Communication skills with the ability to resolve issues as they arise.
  • Willing to Learn and Follow Instructions.
