Position Summary - The Frederick Douglass Academic Success Center (FDASC) is committed to the vision of Operational Excellence at the Center of Academic Success. Every member of the FDASC team contributes to a student-centered culture that encourages students to engage with their learning, empower themselves through intentional support and skill development, and Excel in achieving their highest academic potential.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Frederick Douglass Academic Success Center, the Academic Success Coach provides comprehensive, holistic, and student-centered academic coaching services that promote persistence, retention, academic achievement, and timely graduation. Through individualized coaching, strategic interventions, and collaborative partnerships across the College, the Academic Success Coach assists students in identifying academic and personal barriers, developing effective learning strategies, and creating intentional action plans that support their academic and professional goals.

The Academic Success Coach works proactively with students, faculty, academic advisors, and campus partners to monitor academic progress, facilitate Early Alert interventions, and connect students with appropriate campus resources. The Coach provides guidance regarding institutional policies, academic success strategies, time management, study skills, goal setting, self-advocacy, and personal accountability while fostering student confidence, resilience, and independence.

As part of FDASC's commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement, the Academic Success Coach utilizes student success technologies, data-informed practices, and assessment measures to evaluate student progress, document coaching outcomes, identify trends, and support evidence-based decision-making. Coaches actively participate in professional development, collaborate on academic success programming and workshops, and contribute to departmental initiatives that strengthen student engagement, persistence, retention, and graduation outcomes.

This position serves as a catalyst for student success by combining intentional relationship-building, data-informed coaching, and operational excellence to ensure every student is equipped with the resources, strategies, and support necessary to engage, empower, and excel throughout their academic journey.

Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree required. At least two years' experience with teaching, mentoring, advising, career counseling, and/or providing student services in a higher education setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Required proficiency in various software programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Knowledge of information technology, data collection, data storage, and backup software. Experience with retention management systems

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Provide individualized, holistic academic coaching that engages students in developing the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for academic success, persistence, and timely graduation.

Develop intentional academic success plans that empower students to establish goals, overcome barriers, strengthen self-advocacy, and assume responsibility for their academic progress.

Conduct proactive outreach to students identified through Early Alerts, faculty referrals, academic performance indicators, and other student success initiatives to provide timely intervention and support.

Utilize Starfish and other student success technologies to document coaching interactions, manage appointments, monitor student progress, and facilitate Early Alert interventions.

Monitor student academic performance and collaborate with academic advisors, faculty, and campus partners to coordinate comprehensive support services that promote student success.

Educate students on institutional policies, academic regulations, campus resources, and evidence-based strategies for navigating the collegiate experience successfully.

Coach students in academic success strategies, including time management, organization, effective study techniques, learning strategies, goal setting, critical thinking, and decision-making.

Assist students in developing positive academic routines, personal accountability, resilience, and lifelong learning habits that contribute to academic and personal success.

Analyze student success data to identify trends, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and recommend data-informed strategies that improve student outcomes and departmental performance.

Prepare accurate weekly, monthly, semester, and annual reports that summarize coaching activities, student outcomes, assessment findings, and program effectiveness.

Design, coordinate, and facilitate workshops, presentations, and group coaching sessions that support student engagement, academic achievement, persistence, career readiness, and graduation.

Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to develop and implement innovative programming that intentionally connects academic success, personal development, and career preparation.

Participate in departmental assessment initiatives, including data collection, program evaluation, student learning outcomes assessment, and continuous quality improvement efforts.

Participate in onboarding, ongoing professional development, certification opportunities, departmental meetings, and cross-training initiatives that strengthen academic coaching, tutoring services, student success technologies, and data-informed practices.

Support the day-to-day operations of the Frederick Douglass Academic Success Center while contributing to a collaborative culture grounded in professionalism, accountability, innovation, service excellence, and operational excellence.

Maintain confidentiality of student records and ensure compliance with FERPA, institutional policies, and professional ethical standards.

Assist with special projects, divisional initiatives, campus events, and other duties as assigned by the Director
