Special Education Paraprofessional 1 on 1

Position Overview Assist special education teacher(s) and other certificated personnel by performing a variety of instructional support duties in classroom or resource settings that serve students with a range of disabilities. Paraprofessionals work closely with teachers, administrators, and team members to provide educational benefits while collecting data and monitoring student progress. Essential Functions Work with individual students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher. Support students in the general education classroom and/or in pull‑out rooms as needed. Assist in data collection related to student performance in academic and behavioral domains. Help devise special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on individual student needs, interests, abilities, and MAP scores. Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other instructional materials. Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods, and field trips. Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information as expected of licensed teachers. Participate in in‑service training programs as assigned. Alert the regular teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student. Serve as the primary source of information and assistance for substitute teachers in the absence of the regular teacher. Reinforce student education plans when necessary (504, IEP, etc.). Assist staff and students in the use of educational computer programs. Provide additional documentation to support progress through data collection. Perform other related duties as required by the supervisor. Assist in organizing learning environments; prepare and set up instructional materials and equipment for classroom activities. Assist students with personal hygiene functions and behavior functions as specified in their plans. Act as a mandated reporter to ensure the safety of students (specific to SPED Para positions). Monitor student’s daily schedule and behavior plan to maintain a safe and positive learning environment. Attend problem‑solving/IEP meetings and provide input on student progress to support a whole‑student approach. Periodic assistance with drop‑off and pick‑up of children through Driveline, possibly during inclement weather. Requirements High School Diploma or GED required. Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to positively interact with all students; create a safe learning environment; identify individual student needs; excellent communication skills with students, coworkers, administration, and parents; collaborate with school staff; maintain a professional appearance; plan and manage multiple tasks promptly; demonstrate initiative and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; strong organizational skills. Background Checks The incumbent will be required to pass a criminal history background check and obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Physical and Travel Requirements / Work Environment Typical duties include frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 25 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods, see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids, hear and understand speech at normal levels, speak in audible tones, and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
