This position is with the State of Wyoming, specifically within the Department Of Health at the Life Resource Center in Lander, WY.
Description and Functions
Open Until Filled General Description: The Wyoming Life Resource Center (WLRC) is a state-operated residential and treatment campus in Lander, dedicated to helping residents with intellectual disabilities, brain injuries, and mental health challenges achieve a high quality of life. Manage a consistent caseload as a key member of a multidisciplinary team. WLRC currently serves Wyoming residents in an Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) and Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). Lander is situated in the foothills of the Wind River mountains, making it an outdoor lover's paradise for fishing, hiking, camping, and more. Please note: ICF regulations require this to be an on-site, face-to-face position. Essential Functions: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
- Perform specialized evaluations for motor, sensory, and cognitive function related to daily living skills.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment programs to promote independence in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as grooming and dressing, and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) like cooking and shopping.
- Assess the need for adaptive equipment, seating systems, and specialized orthotics, and monitor for their repair and replacement.
- Provide training to direct care staff on therapeutic activities, safe handling techniques, and positioning.
- Coordinate care plans with medical providers, families, and case managers.
- Provide Occupational Therapy evaluations, service objectives, progress notes, and program development.
- Serve as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team for a caseload of residents. Attend ISPs, team meetings, and care conferences.
- Teach Physical Challenges classes to new and current staff.
- Evaluate the need for specialized or adaptive equipment. Order, maintain, and replace equipment and materials, as needed.
- Work with the Therapeutic Equipment (TE) Shop to design and develop needed equipment and materials.
- Evaluate residents for wheelchairs, customized seating systems, and all appropriate support.
- Monitor systems for fit and function, making adaptations, modifications, and recommendations when needed.
- Evaluate the need for splinting interventions. Order or fabricate the appropriate intervention. Develop the methodology and Orthotic Wearing Schedule. Monitor for fit, function, and repair.
- Provide direct treatment as indicated through professional judgment and ongoing assessments and/or referrals by medical providers.
- Provide consultative services to Interdisciplinary Team members and colleagues as needed to enhance the resident's ability to participate in pre-vocational, vocational, leisure activities, and ADLs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Occupational Therapy practice, principles, and procedures.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and neurology related to neuromuscular and musculoskeletal function, kinesiology, sensory processing, and intellectual disability.
- Ability to write assessments, job aids, guidelines, and the ability to teach and train others.
- Knowledge of seating systems, ambulation aides, and a variety of therapeutic equipment.
- Skills in verbal and written communication and communicating positively and effectively with residents, staff, families, guardians, and the public.
- Ability to use computer and software applications.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Ability to conduct work activities in a self-motivated and disciplined manner.
- Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Occupational Therapy)
Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Occupational Therapy)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Licensure or eligible for licensure in the State of Wyoming as an Occupational Therapist.
Necessary Special Requirements
Physical Working Conditions:
- Must be able to safely move (twisting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities.
- Ability to monitor sounds, noises, location of residents, etc. to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.
- Ability to work alone and/or with multiple residents.
- Skills in crisis management and the ability to intervene in a resident behavioral crisis.
