Engineering Manager

JOB TITLE: Engineering Manager DEPARTMENT: Engineering REPORTS TO: Vice President of Engineering CLASSIFICATION: Exempt POSITION OVERVIEW: The Engineering Manager will provide engineering, design and drafting in the preparation of all projects assigned. The Engineering Manager will supervise and perform engineering studies/analyses on utility systems, prepare engineering solutions to mitigate system risk, and optimize system investment. ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS/DUTIES: Provide technical supervision and oversee quality of team deliverables Ensure compliance by being abreast of codes and standards Plan/coordinate pole loading Define plan of control Direct/supervise junior engineers Provide detailed engineering, design and planning assessments and recommendations Evaluate system operations, and provide project scope development for overhead and underground utility systems Plan, develop and coordinate engineering studies on projects with complex engineering solutions to address system risk, reliability and capacity limitations Additional duties as needed and/or assigned QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of various standards of codes Ability to make good business and financial judgements and quick decisions Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles, including understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations Capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously Good judgement and analytical skills Good organizational skills Strong interpersonal skills General computer skills (email, Microsoft Office) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Structural, Mechanical or Civil Engineering 15 Years of Industry Experience Preferred Education and Experience: Previous extensive experience in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering preferred LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: Required Licenses/Certifications: Professional Engineer License Preferred Licenses/Certifications: PMP SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Travels: Yes Percent of time: 25% Overnight required: Yes PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stationary Position -Seldom Pushing/Pulling/Reaching - Seldom Climb - Seldom Kneel - Seldom Grab - Seldom Bend - Seldom Lift/carry over - Less than 5 LBS Vision - 20/20 Corrected Vision Hearing - Receive detailed information if spoken to WORKING CONDITIONS: Wet or Humid - Seldom Working near or on moving mechanical parts - Seldom Working near or on heavy machinery - Frequently Working in high places - Seldom Exposed to fumes or airborne particles - Seldom Exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals - Seldom Frequency of working in outdoor weather conditions - Seldom Work with Electricity - Frequently Work with explosives - Seldom Work on or near a source of radiation - Seldom Loud noise conditions (above 87dB)- Seldom Other Environmental Factors including weather conditions Note: This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
