- Position Type: Contract
- Contract Duration: 3 months
- Pay Rate: $55.00 / Hour (USD)
- Shift / Schedule: Night Shift, 12-hour nights (18:45–07:15); 3x12. Block scheduling option available (F/S/S or S/S/M schedule).
- Travel Requirements: Float requirement — Required. Travelers could be required to float to any other med-surg unit within the facility to meet staffing needs based on census.
- Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
Job Summary
This is a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry travel nursing position at a fast-paced unit specializing in orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patient populations. The unit serves an average daily census of 37 patients across 39 beds and rooms and ortho and spine patients require nurses who can stay on top of pain management needs. The unit accepts 13-week contracts and will accept first-time travelers with EPIC experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to a patient population including orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients.
- Manage pain effectively for ortho and spine patients in a fast-paced unit environment.
- Maintain assigned patient ratios — expected 5–6:1; may flex up to 7:1 only in extreme cases.
- Perform IV starts and telemetry monitoring as part of standard unit duties.
- Float to any other med-surg unit within the facility as required to meet staffing needs based on census.
- Fulfill every-other-weekend requirement; if the RN calls out on a weekend, they will be required to make that time up on a weekend.
- Care for COVID patients on unit as applicable (COVID patients are no longer cohorted to a specific COVID unit; all COVID patients unless they end up in ICU are cared for on all units wherever they are when confirmed).
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience required — must have orthopedic (ORTHO) work experience.
- IV Start proficiency.
- Telemetry skills.
- EPIC experience (required for first-time travelers).
- BCLS certification.
- NIH (stroke scale) certification.
Preferred Skills
- ACLS certification.
- Charge Nurse experience.
- Level I Trauma experience.
Education Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- BCLS certification required.
- NIH certification required.
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty.
- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only).
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- Must have orthopedic (ORTHO) work experience — this is a non-negotiable requirement.
- Unit will accept first-time travelers with EPIC experience.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced unit; nurses must be able to stay on top of patient pain management for ortho and spine populations.
- Patient population: orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, post-surgical.
- Average daily census: 37. Rooms: 39; Beds: 39.
- Expected ratio: 5–6:1; may flex up to 7:1 in extreme cases only.
- Every other weekend required. If RN calls out on a weekend, they will be required to make that time up on a weekend.
- Float requirement: travelers could be required to float to any other med-surg unit within the facility to meet staffing needs based on census.
- Block scheduling option available (F/S/S or S/S/M schedule).
- 36 hours or 48 hours can be offered per week.
- Holiday RTO cannot be approved.
Important Notes
- RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
- Maximum 7 days RTO for AYA Auto Offer positions.
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty.
- Local candidates accepted; rate difference may apply.
