Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant performs specific responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. Functions within the framework of the NAI listing granted by the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Practices within the philosophy and goals of patient care services. In addition, the Nursing Assistant may be utilized in the Observer Role responsible for monitoring one or more assigned patients on a designated unit for a specified time period.

Responsibilities include participating in Quality Improvement (QI) Activities, problem solving resolution activities, data collection, employing safe practices, infection control, and fire and disaster regulations, participating in cost savings activities, participating in education, attending staff development programs, fulfilling annual mandatory educational requirements, orienting new staff and students, following hospital and unit-based policies and procedures, building interpersonal relations and communications, making unit, department and hospital contributions, assisting in providing direct patient care, monitoring patients for signs of escalating behaviors, alerting nurses of risks, maintaining observation levels, communicating effectively with the patient's care team, documenting accurately, providing hazard surveillance, reducing risk, and engaging patients in distraction activities.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, NAI listing with NC Department of Health and Human Services, current American Heart Association HeartSaver or higher certification, and de-escalation training.

Shift requirements are night shifts for part-time positions with weekends included.
