Accountant III Role The Accountant III role is responsible for supporting inventory valuation, cost accounting processes, and financial reporting related to inventory and cost of goods sold. This role ensures accurate inventory valuation using FIFO and standard costing methodologies, analyzes cost drivers and purchase price variances, strengthens internal controls, and supports compliance with accounting standards. The position partners with operations, procurement, and finance teams and directs inventory processes within the ERP environment. Responsibilities Support inventory valuation processes using FIFO and standard costing methodologies. Ensure accurate standard cost setup, updates, and maintenance within D365. Analyze inventory transactions, cost rollups, and cost allocations. Perform inventory reconciliations and resolve discrepancies between subledger and general ledger. Maintain accurate cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting, including full absorption and/or abnormal cost indicators. Analyze manufacturing and procurement costs to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings. Report on purchase price variances (PPV) and investigate significant fluctuations. Partner with procurement and operations teams to improve cost efficiency and pricing strategies. Prepare cost analysis reports and provide recommendations to leadership. Direct inventory and cost accounting processes within Microsoft Dynamics 365. Ensure data integrity, accurate system configuration, and consistent use of costing methods. Support system implementations, enhancements, testing, and process improvements. Train and support users on inventory and costing processes. Implement and maintain strong internal controls over inventory and cost accounting processes. Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements. Support internal and external audit activities, including documentation and testing of controls. Identify control gaps and implement corrective actions. Support month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes related to inventory and cost accounting. Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis. Provide inventory and cost‑related disclosures for financial statements. Develop management reporting and KPIs related to inventory performance. Manage processes for identifying excess and obsolete inventory. Develop and maintain reserve methodologies and supporting documentation. Review inventory aging reports and recommend reserve adjustments. Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams to minimize inventory risk. Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, cost transparency, and operational efficiency. Develop policies and procedures for inventory and cost accounting functions. Lead accounting staff, where applicable. Partner cross‑functionally with supply chain, operations, and finance leadership. Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business is required. 5+ years of experience required. Proficient understanding of US GAAP, financial statements, and accounting theory, including SOX compliance. Strong knowledge of FIFO and standard costing methodologies. Proactive advocate of change through analysis of business processes. Advanced skill in Excel and Word with strong written and oral communication skills. Intermediate ERP systems experience with Microsoft D365 preferred. Execute responsibilities with a sense of urgency and follow‑through. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a fast‑paced environment. ADA Requirements Positions require typing, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. The work involves performing complex tasks to very close accuracy and quality specifications, or a high degree of hand and eye coordination for sustained periods. The job is performed under comfortable working conditions. Visits to manufacturing and suppliers’ facilities are required to monitor active projects and address design issues. Compliance with company attendance standards applies. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time; occasional lifting up to 10 pounds is acceptable.
