Job Categories: Support Staff > Safety/Security Primary Purpose Work under minimal supervision to assist in providing student safety and to patrol/monitor high school campus parking lots. Qualifications Education/Certification: Must be at least 18 years of age Valid Class C driver’s license Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Basic knowledge of traffic safety regulations Ability to identify and respond quickly to traffic safety hazards Willingness to work with children and staff Ability to communicate instructions effectively to both children and adults Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions Willing to work outdoors in a campus parking lot 8 hours a day in all weather Experience: None Major Responsibilities and Duties Patrol and monitor high school campus parking lots. Assist children and other community members to safely cross streets at assigned intersections during designated hours. Manage heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Manage large groups and unruly children. Identify potential traffic safety hazards and respond quickly to protect children and avoid incidents. Ensure a smooth and expedient flow of both vehicular and foot traffic. Follow and uphold district safety requirements and report traffic violations and student misconduct in accordance with district procedures. Communicate safety and traffic rules to students and parents as needed. Correct unsafe conditions when possible and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor as soon as practicable. Supply counts and reports as requested. Report any person loitering in vicinity of or interfering with a guard/controller. Use tact and courtesy when working and dealing with students and staff. Other Ability to read, comprehend and prepare various reports. Ability to perform the job with little or no supervision. Keep equipment in good condition. Wear uniform and safety equipment at all times while on duty. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Manual Trades – Security Personnel. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment Used: Handheld traffic signs, traffic cones, reflective safety attire, security equipment, and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing Motion: Strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent driving Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (15 - 44 pounds) Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather).
