Position Summary The Acute Clinical Staff Pharmacist at Banner Payson Medical Center is responsible for the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients using the medication use process. The pharmacist documents all components of the care delivered, oversees pharmacy technicians and interns, coordinates workflow, and approves medications prior to dispensing. The role requires knowledge and skills appropriate to the patient age group and includes interpreting patient data to identify therapeutic needs. Job Schedule Varied shift: Typically days with weekend and holiday rotations. Pharmacies staffed 6:30AM–5:30PM weekdays and 7:30AM–4:30PM weekends/holidays. The pharmacist is on call after hours for emergent needs. The position alternates between outpatient clinic (≈2 days per week) and hospital setting. Core Functions Process medication orders, evaluating appropriateness and completeness relative to patient data (age, height, weight, diagnosis, laboratory values, and pertinent information). Apply clinical pharmacy skills to assess medication regimens, formulate recommendations, contact prescribers with suggestions, and resolve medication order issues. Serve as a resource for patients and the health‑care team and provide timely medication information. Comply with Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee/Clinical Consensus Group directives, document activities in the EMR and other databases, including pharmacist‑to‑pharmacist/provider communication, adverse drug event reporting, and clinical interventions. Pursue professional development via BPS educational resources to achieve competence in acute pharmacy core practices, and assist with training/onboarding new staff. Prepare and dispense medications (sterile or non‑sterile compounded), ensuring accuracy and timeliness in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Oversee day‑to‑day pharmacy operations, including technology management, inventory control, and accurate record keeping, and supervise technicians, interns, and students. Minimum Qualifications Unrestricted Pharmacist licensure in the state of practice and a degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy. In Arizona, provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at hire; if not licensed, complete the application process within 30 days and obtain licensure within 90 days (unless delayed by the Board). Current, unrestricted Pharmacist license and at least one year of acute care hospital experience, including work within the past 12 months in the specialty area. Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and computer skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interaction with staff, physicians, and patients. Proficiency with reference tools, medication management information systems, Microsoft applications, and automated dispensing systems. Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and a signed Criminal History Affidavit (where required). Preferred Qualifications Completion of an accredited pharmacy residency program.
