Assistant Attorney General Criminal Division

Position Summary The Office of the Attorney General has an opening for an Assistant Attorney General within the Criminal Division, located in Lewiston. The position has responsibility for cases in the Lewiston District Court and the Androscoggin Superior Court in Auburn. The AAG is a member of the Attorney General’s Drug Task Force and will manage a high‑volume caseload of drug‑related offenses in Androscoggin County. Responsibilities include providing legal advice on 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendment issues, reviewing and drafting affidavits for arrest and search warrants, issuing subpoenas, participating in proffer interviews of confidential informants and cooperating defendants, assisting law enforcement in overdose‑death investigations, drafting appellate briefs, conducting oral arguments before the Law Court, and managing a trial schedule that includes pre‑trial motions, trials, and post‑judgement motions. Salary Grade 1, Salary range: $71,843.20 – $139,110.40 per year. Salary competitive and based upon qualifications. The salary has been set by the Office of the Attorney General, Position #006000422. Minimum Qualifications Member of the Maine Bar in good standing. Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team. Ability to work with complex criminal investigations. Willingness to engage in frequent litigation. Strong legal advocacy, research, and writing skills. High ethical standards, sound judgment, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and good organizational and time‑management skills. Three years of criminal law experience (preferred).
