The Mount Sinai Behavioral Health service line encompasses the clinical behavioral health services including the Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Morningside, Mount Sinai West, Mount Sinai Queens, Mount Sinai South Nassau, and the Mount Sinai Behavioral Health Center.The Inpatient Psychiatry Unit Chief provides clinical leadership for a multidisciplinary academic treatment team comprising psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, psychologists, nursing staff, social workers, counselors, and occupational therapists. Serving as a role model for professionalism, clinical excellence, and scholarly practice, the Unit Chief fosters a culture of high-quality patient care, exceptional education, and collaborative teamwork. Responsibilities include overall clinical leadership of the unit, direct clinical care, training and supervision. The Unit Chief works in close partnership with the Medical Director of Acute Care and Vice Chair to advance clinical, educational, and operational goals across the service.ResponsibilitiesUnit Clinical Structure and CoordinationLeads and oversees the interdisciplinary team including team meetingsProvides clinical consultation and supervision to the unit in partnership with the Medical Director of Acute Care PsychiatryParticipates in ensuring the delivery of high quality care on the unit, providing leadership to the staff and patient communityClinical Care ResponsibilitiesProvides psychiatric care to adult patients with acute psychiatric disordersPartners with the Medical Director of Acute Care to ensure consistent psychiatric coverage and continuity of care on the unitLeads interdisciplinary treatment planning, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to promote patient-centered careMaintains timely, accurate, and regulatory-compliant documentation of clinical care activitiesTraining and SupervisionProvides clinical oversight and supervision for psychiatry residents, fellows, medical students and other trainees on the inpatient psychiatry service fostering excellence in patient care and clinical educationParticipates in educational activities including lectures and case conferences as scheduled by the Department of PsychiatryCollaborates with training program directors in all elements of administrative and clinical responsibilitiesQuality, Safety, and Performance ImprovementParticipates in Quality Improvement (QI) activities, including performance improvement projects and chart reviews to enhance patient outcomes, safety, and operational effectivenessServes as a member of departmental committees focused on quality, patient safety, and patient experiencePromotes a culture of continuous improvement through education and mentorship of interdisciplinary team membersCollaborates with the Departmental Quality and Safety leadership, the Vice Chair, and the Chair in the review, investigation, and follow-up of safety events, incidents, and patient care concerns occurring within the inpatient psychiatry unit.Monitors and evaluates the use of emergency procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, best practices, and patient-centered care standardsSupports ongoing regulatory compliance and accreditation readinessQualificationsBoard certified/board eligible PsychiatristPossess a NYS license to practice medicineExcellent clinical knowledge and communication skillsOutstanding teaching skills Must possess highly collaborative and proactive approach, and demonstrate commitment to high-quality, cost-effective health careA strong work ethic and desire to participate in and grow a team-oriented, performance-driven departmentQualifications for Assistant Professor or higher academic levelCompensation range from 255K to 320K (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits).Salary Disclosure Information:Mount Sinai Health System provides a salary range to comply with the New York City law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements.
